Mark Teahen idea

The Royals suck, Mark Teahen bats left-handed, and while he doesn't play third base anymore, many during the offseason felt as though he still could.

Teahen hit his first year of arby this year, so the Royals may not be motivated to move him, and his name hasn't popped up in trade rumors, but he isn't hitting particularly well this season for a bad team. The Royals have some big bats already on their team, although a few of them (Gordon, Butler) are under-performing, and a few others in the minors (Moustakas, and Hosmer if he signs) that may make them more inclined to make such a trade.

Just an idea. Mark Teahen's name has gone unmentioned for too long (as far as I can tell) on this forum.

I strongly feel we look to the Royals in the offseason for Greinke and possibly Teahen as well. I don't see us trading for any third baseman unless Gamel is moved. Some say it's inevitable, but maybe it isn't. I think it's 50/50. If Gamel is kept at third, you can forget about the Teahen/Laroche/etc. ideas. We alos have Taylor Green (maybe if not dealt) who'll likely be ready in two years. And if Gamel is moved, still, do we really want to give up on Billy Hall given how he's played lately? I'd love him to replace Counsell and be a supersub next year and get his 400 or so at bats personally. I truly believe we dangle Fielder or one of Hardy/Weeks and maybe a top prospect and see if we can get Greinke plus in the offseason. Otherwise, I see us going with Yo and Parra as our top two starters and likely hang into the race and rent the top starter avaulable around the deadline next year with another LaPorta type deal.

I really don't know what Teahen would provide. He is hitting .238/.268/.648 vs. Lefties and .252/.326/.733 vs. righties. Those numbers are less than stellar. His career numbers are much better, .279/.347/.786 vs. righties. Teahen also hasn't played 3rd base since 2006 and in 237 games at 3rd base he has 34 errors, a less than stellar total. Teahan would make a nice addition if the Brewers could get him on the super cheap, Gillespie and Pena style. I know that is an offer that would be rejected by the Royals but I just don't see how Teahen fits into the Brewers plans.

Hall/Teahan is equal to or slightly worse than Hall/Branyan.

I like the idea of Teahan even better if he is playing in right field. Corey Hart could handle center field, where his bat would be in the top 3, and his arm would not be as big of a detriment. Teahen has a pretty strong arm from what I can tell, and decent range. As far as his offense goes, he is only getting on base at a .313 clip which is low for him, and will come up. So even if he is not OPSing 850 if he is getting on base at a 340 clip or higher he would be a great addition to the lineup, whether it be in right field or third base.
