First Date Ideas?

Consider having your palms read. It is pretty cheap and can create some funny inside jokes that build a connection between the two of you.

SenatorShriv I you sir are a genious. That is actually an amazing first date option and is standard practice for me.

Going to a psychic, palm reader, tarot card reader etc., is an extremely fun option. It is something unique, at least I thought it was until the Senator brought it up. It's great because it jump start's the convesation. It is great for getting to know someone's personality and a bit about them without getting to deep.

Go to a psychic, after that head to a coffee shop for some good old fashioned conversation. For dinner Sushi is always fun, vegitarian friendly also. After that a piano bar is fun. More relaxed and condusive to conversation.

Doc, first off good luck on your date. Here are a few thoughts:

Dinner:

Fresco - Rooftop of the Overture/Madison Museum of Contemporary Art - great space and if you have the right table a great view of the Capitol

Blue Marlin - not quite as special as it used to be but still a nice seafood bistro and cozy

Restaurant Muramoto - if you like sushi/asian this is my Madison favorite that combines a great atmosphere and decent food

Bar Bistro 608 - this is at Sundance at Hilldale - food is OK - if you can eat on the rooftop and the weather's nice a great setting

After Dinner:

- The Terrace is always a good choice as long as you don't mind running into EVERYBODY you possibly know - can't beat the view and feel (FYI - Pat McCurdy's playing the Terrace on Friday night - beware)

- Sundance - again - the movie selection is unique and while a bit snobbish still special - I'd currently recommend the French thriller "Tell No One" - great pic

- Go to Barriques for a coffee drink

Let us know how it goes.

A word of warning about the Terrace..make sure you can find a table!

Things were progressing well on a first date situation one time, only to get to the Terrace to find it absolutely packed. The only table that opened up was directly next to the stage, which was fine until some god-awful band took over and we could no longer hear each other speak over the singer screeching over the mic.

I did not get a second tryout for this particular team..it could be because I'm a horrible date, but it's convenient to blame it on the Terrace http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Thanks for the ideas guys, I've always had fun taking a girl out for sushi so Muramoto sounds like a good place (plus I've never been and have always wanted to try it). I'm thinking a dinner like that and then go for a drink or two somewhere a little less crowded than the terrace. I also like taking a girl mini golfing, espescially if there's a driving range so I can teach her a little of the real thing. But, that might be a bit much with dinner too. Second date? That said, I think it'd be hard to go wrong with a 12-pack in the back seat of my sweet Chevy Prism.

Anyway, I'm not taking her out until next week (she's out of town), so feel free to keep the ideas coming if you want...or you could throw out some memorable first dates of your own...good or bad. Who doesn't like a bad first date story?

I really enjoy heading to one of those lowdown art gallery/junk stores on dates--those ones that are named "Antiques Barn" or something and are basically one giant garage sale.

1. it's like shopping, so chicks love that to begin with.

2. you can show your funny side with the ugly clothes or other horrible things and make jokes in general

3. anything that's actually interesting you can show your inquisitive side

4. it's a great way to share your likes/dislikes

5. Every few feet an item will remind you of a story from when you were a kid

6. never a dull moment since there's always something new you're looking at

though I don't like the really fancy art places as much because you have to be pretty quiet and you can't really make fun of stuff. plus the junk store sets a great, relaxed mood and doesn't have that aire of "we're on a date".

I love that tarot card/palm reader idea. it sounds like it would be fun even if it isn't a first date, too.

bad first date story?

i asked a girl to go to a movie with me, not an "i'll pay" type date. just get yer feet wet as we didn't know each other too well and go from there. I didn't pay for her and we didn't talk after that. she told all her friends i was a cheap bastard (not that i cared, i didn't know any of them but one). We were planning on goin out for drinks after, but I just took her home instead.

unless you really like a girl and have known her for awhile, don't pop for the entire night, there's lots of girls out there that just want a free night on the town. this was a really long time ago, but i also learned movies aren't the best first date option either.

True story: I once went on a blind date with a guy who took me to McDonalds AND made me pay for my meal.

I don't like the bowling/ mini golfing ideas, only because for a first date it seems like you're trying too much to make it a fun-first-date. Honestly, I was asked to go bowling for a first date once, I had to bite my finger from laughing. It's cute, definitely, but my preference would be to get appetizers and drinks, and then walk around and go from there. I prefer the getting to know you than activity thing. Then again, you said you've chatted with the girl, so maybe a more structured date is the way to girl. I love SenatorShriv/Nader Raider Tim and GAME05 ideas.

I am going on TWO first dates this weekend. Tonight is in Raleigh, we're going to some outside art festival. Tomorrow is in Chapel Hill, and I'm really not sure what we're doing past dinner.

Here's my advice for Madison: good restaurants: Tutto Pasta, Greenbush Bar, Imperial Garden Chinese on the West Side.

The terrace is always a hit. If you're looking for a really chill place to grab a drink towards the end of the evening, Amy's Cafe is cool.... but make sure wherever you go that you're sitting outside if the weather permits. Also, don't go to Amy's past Midnight because it gets packed then.
