Cards send Anthony Reyes to Cleveland for prospects

Not sure that I understand this one. Is it signifying that the Cards are giving up? Are they just getting rid of an arm that isn't doing much and gambling on a prospect from Cleveland's system? Trying to open up a roster spot for Chris Carpenter?

I have a hard time figuring this one out as well. Not only form the Card's perspective but from Cleveland's as well. It looks like an off season trade made early.

Reyes had less than 2 years service time going into this season, so he can be a great pickup if he can turn it around. This might actually be a perfect time to pick Reyes up. Teams are mostly selling or buying right now. The competition for Reyes may have been stronger in the offseason. It certainly is unorthodox to do this now, but I think it's a smart move.
