Bowden says Cordero will be non-tendered

The Nationals GM Jim Bowden, has gone on record yesterday stating that they will non- tender their former closer Chad Cordero. Cordero, tore his labrum, and could be ready by next spring training. I dont think anyone would blame Bowden for not offering him arbitration, but to go public with it, when you are so far away from that date seems very odd. In the article Bowden says "We hope that Chad Cordero re-signs with us, but based on his surgery, our interest would be a low base salary with incentives,"

The Brewers have expressed interest in Cordero this past off-season, but supposedly did not want to part with Rickie Weeks in the deal. If we could get Cordero on an incentive laden deal, I would like that very much.

Oh sorry, yes Bowden had a ton of offers this off-season, and the 2 before that were even better. As for him not being as good as he was the last couple of years, and Torres being a better option, that might be true, but that does not mean he would not be a good signing. Cordero's deal will not be very much because of the injury concern, if we could get him to agree to something in the range 1-2 million with incentives based on games played, that could have a very high payoff.
