Jarrod Washburn (Why?)

So I had an old friend staying with me for the week and he received a phone call last night from one of his friends that is a former college teammate of Jarrod Washburn's saying that Washburn was going to be a Brewer. I immediately dismissed that wondering why in the world the Brewers would trade for Washburn when they are already platooning their 5th starter?

Then today this article out of Seattle was written naming the Brewers as a potential suitor.

I have no idea about the credibility of my friend's source, and pretty much dismissed it off hand until I read that article. I wonder if he misunderstood that Washburn wants to be a Brewer instead of Washburn is going to actually be a Brewer.

Personally, I don't see a point in picking up Washburn considering he'll make a good chunk of change next year. We already have a Washburn, he is right-handed and named Jeff Suppan.

From the article:

Washburn probably would most like to go to Milwaukee, his hometown.

Fer chrissakes. Yeah, everyone in WI lives in one of two cities people have heard of: Milwaukee or Green Bay. Also, they eat cheese constantly and have a farm. Webster is only 350 miles away, so the writer was pretty close.

Please, God, no. After dodging a bullet and not signing him a few years ago, I thought I could finally relax. Just when the seemingly never ending Dave Roberts rumors seemed to have finally been put to rest.... now I have to worry about this.

RockCoCougars, Washburn has been--as expected--solid for the M's. It can be expected his ERA would drop at least 1/4 of a run, which means that he'd be a 4.00-4.40 ERA pitcher, which is basically like Suppan.

I wouldn't pickup Washburn for the reasons I mentioned in the trade suppan thread.

Point taken. That said, Washburn is a fly ball pitcher, and moving from a pitcher's park to Miller Park, I would guess his ERA would move to the 5 range. The only way that I'd consider a trade for him would be if they took Suppan and some salary could be saved (not even sure if that's the case though). Even though I'm not a big fan of Suppan, I probably wouldn't do it even if money could be saved, because I think he is a notch better than Washburn at this point.

No way in heck I'm carrying BOTH Washburn and Suppan on the the roster at those bloated salaries. Let the Cubs do stuff like that.

What is Washburn's contract info? Did he sign the same year Soup signed here?

Looked it up and answered my own question. Just wondering if Seattle would take 3-4 million, along with Suppan, for Washburn.

Washburn has been great lately and his contract runs out after next year. So, we'd get a little freedom, with salary, if Soup waives any no trade clause. Not sure if it would happen, but it may be worth a shot.
