Nice to see the Brewers expand their broadcast base . Does anyone know how big the Hispanic population is in Milwaukee?

Brewers games on ESPN Deportes

Beginning this Sunday, select Milwaukee Brewers games will be broadcast in Spanish on ESPN Deportes WRRD-AM (Radio 1510), the team has announced.

"The Brewers Hispanic fan base is very strong and growing, and we're excited to bring Brewers baseball to this audience through Spanish language broadcasts," said Rick Schlesinger, the team's executive vice president for business operations.

ESPN Deportes will broadcast every remaining Brewers home afternoon game, beginning with Sunday's game against the Houston Astros. The game begins at 1:05 p.m.

In the 2009 season, all home day games will be broadcast on the station.

"The Brewers were the obvious choice for our first local play-by-play partnership due to our listeners' interest, the team's commitment to the Hispanic community, and the Brewers commitment to wining," said ESPN Deportes owner Craig Karmazin.

A play-by-play announcer has not yet been announced.

This follows in line with Telemundo broadcasts, which must be doing well

 

However, those numbers are probably low, based on inexact census taking, and the fact that a lot of illegal immigrants don't report due to a lot of INS raids shortly after the 1990 census in Milwaukee

Being raised in Delavan(where the hispanic population is about 1/2 of the "unoffical" pop, about an extra 7k onto delavan's offical population), I can tell you i have seen alot more Cerveceros shirts in my old hometown since they started catering more towards the hispanic population. I think it's a good move and will help the popularity of the team.

One of the best PR moves the Crew made in the past few years was expanding and extending into the Hispanic population in Milwaukee.
