Official Silver Lining Thread

foamboy1
Well we are still in 1st place and the Cubs and Cards are not showing much sign of catching up. It almost feels like the Brewers could go all season without another win and the worst they would do is a game out of first in the division. CoCo was bound to have a bad outing and now that is out of the way. Hopefully in the future he will give up singles runs at a time instead of bunches. Should also make him a little cheaper to keep next year. Also shows how volatile relief pitching can be.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I really want to see what this team can do fully healthy.

This is about as healthy as you can reasonably expect any team to be in the middle of June. We've been very lucky as far as injuries go. The team we've got out there now is about as good as it's gonna get, although I'm not sure that's really much of a silver lining...

As painful as this team has been for the past month, the presence of Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, Weeks, and soon Gallardo will at least give me something to watch for the rest of the season.

Once we get done with this road trip, there's a pretty big span of bad/mediocre teams that we play.

June 18-20: Giants (28-33)

June 22-24: Royals (23-40)

June 25-27: Astros (26-35)

June 29-July 1: Cubs (27-33)

July 2-5: Pirates (26-36)

July 6-8: Nationals (26-36)

July 13-15: Rockies (30-32)

July 16-19: Diamondbacks (36-27)

July 20-22: Giants (28-33)

July 23-26: Reds (24-39)

July 27-29: Cardinals (26-33)

That's almost a month and a half that we go with playing only one team who is currently over .500. We're gonna be fine.

According to my calculations, Sheets has a 18 2/3 scoreless innings streak going. And over the last 10 games he has a 5-1 record with an ERA of 2.35 and a WHIP of 1.17 despite only having 46 K's over 61 1/3 innings. In his 4 non-decisions during that span, he had an ERA of 1.54 and a WHIP of 1.24. He could have easily had 2 or 3 more wins during that span with a little run support and/or help from the bullpen.

With his 4 hit night, Johnny Estrada is on the verge of getting his OBP up to .300!!

Really though, a lot of our "lower end" hitters (specifically Counsell and Graffanino) have really brought their stats up to respectable levels during the past couple of days. Good to see.

Ryan Braun has a .941 OPS. He completes me.

The team looks like they are snapping out of their offensive funk.

I'm really excited about the Tigers series. I calculated something like a 40% chance of winning each game but with Sheets pitching and Bonderman not pitching, I think the chances are better than that. It would be nice to take two of three and lift the spirits of Brewerfan.net nation.

I'd like to applaud the Milwaukee Brewers for their fine work tonight. Zero men left on base.

I'm sure we left one of those walks on base.

Since this is about the silver lining, i figure there has to be a silver lining after being no-hit, besides the fact that this will hopefully wake up a few players and managers.

Bill Hall- really impressed me tonight. He made a spectacular catch, and he drew 3 walks. I would think drawing three walks for a normal player in a normal game is pretty good and relatively uncommon, but for Hall this is very impressive. We know he has a problems with strikeouts, but he was seeing the ball well tonight (which is hard to do when the guy is throwing 100+ in the 9th). Add on to that the fact that every player coming up to bat probably had something in the back of their mind about breaking up the no-hitter; Hall has been the hero before, and no doubt enjoys the taste. But he was patient and just trying to get something started, even if it meant not being the hero.

Okay, maybe "hero" is a bit much for the guy that breaks up a no-hitter, but you know what i mean hopefully.

Jose Capellan- also impressed me tonight. I have to admit there was a dark side to me the first time he started warming up after being called up. I still wanted the Brewers to win, but the evil somewhere in the back of my mind was hoping he would get shelled...which he basically did. But tonight he looked relaxed and his pitches were tight, so hopefully he can keep that up cause it would be great having two good long relief guys in the pen. And I pray that he does, cause I don't think I can stomach Dessens anymore.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

If there's anything good I can say, it's that I believe things truly cannot get any worse.

Mired in the middle of a slump, the Brewers are no hit. Their closer blew 2 saves on a road trip. Hard hit balls are seeming to find a glove on every play and the calls seem to be rolling with the other team (take the non-strike 3 call in Texas vs JV's strike zone in the ninth).

Short of Braun, Fielder and Hardy colliding in the middle of the diamond causing season ending injuries to them all, I can't see the basement getting any lower. They HAVE to get better!
