Foam, happy to help you avoid a debilitating depression!

I'm less inclined to lean on the intangibles; goodness knows there has been enough poking fun at the gamers and battlers theme. However, some nice signs in this regard also:

--I agree with your point in the original post. From comments I've heard in player interviews as well as Powell/Uke comments, it certainly seems that Fielder has the "it factor" with the team as a real leader (case in point being his performance after the Pirates beaning a few weeks ago). Also based on comments I've heard on broadcasts, seems Hardy is well respected by the team and is somewhat of a leader, although in more quiet way than Prince.

--Hall has taken his transition to CF in a very positive way, he seems commited to the change and has had a great attitude about it

--Sheets seems to have some productive feistiness this year...Jenkins is not complaining about the platoon role and is producing better. Suppan seems as advertised as a steady influence.

More good signs....

I recall JJ Hardy being signed by the team....they announced he was already the top defensive shortstop in the organization. They hoped he would develop offensively....he's beyond what I had hoped for. After two years of disappointment....the last two months have guaranteed him a massive contract after the 2010 season.

I am not posting in the Vent thread...that is a silver lining.

Additionally, Prince and JJ continue to establish themselves as two guys to build around. My gosh.

When does Villenueva get a starting spot?

We had an incredibly bad stretch of 3 weeks where we seriously won like 4 total games, and we lost a whole 1.5 games of our lead. I'm absolutely stunned by that.

like we talked about in the chat...i too am amazed by that...I took a couple sips of hawings blue cool aid after it was broke down...we couldn't play much worse than what we did, and lost nothing in the standings...only wish that we would have won some games and run away with the division.

Watching Cubs get into fights in the dugout makes me happy.

EDIT: There is a good chance all of our regular/everyday players will finish with a higher batting average than the .271 Hall posted last year which led the Brewers.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

This was from Geoff Jenkins' blog today and I think it illustrates the presence that Prince already has on this team:

Quote:
We have a super clubhouse. We have a lot of fun together and enjoy ourselves and each other. That makes for some pretty good team camaraderie on a daily basis. Nobody is getting themselves worked up looking at the standings; we?re just having fun playing baseball.

Believe it or not, Prince Fielder has become the guy in the clubhouse who really keeps things loose these days. He?s got an unbelievable personality. He?s got this infectious laugh ?- I?m laughing right now just thinking about it ?- that takes over the room. He keeps it light, always joking around -- up until it?s time to get to work. He takes the game as serious as anyone.

With all the doom and gloom around here, I'd like to point out that the Brewers STILL have a 6 game lead and STILL have scored more runs than they've given up this year. Predicting that the Brewers will be below .500 in no time has little factual basis and is simply rooted in the typical fatalist attitude most Brewer fans seem afflicted with.

A couple years ago, Brewerfan.net everyone got all excited when the Brewers were "only" 4.5 games back and in 3rd place in the NL Central in July. I was called all kinds of horrible names for pointing out how little of a chance the Brewers had. Now it seems I'm being accused of having Brewer goggles on for pointing out that the Brewers still have almost a 2 in 3 chance of making the playoffs this year and actually have some talent to back it up.

Let's just watch the season unfold and see what happens?

I'd like to point out that Bill Hall has started to really smoke the ball. I think he's due for a big month.

Amen for optimism. Why put yourself through hell sweating the small stuff when the team is in first place?

For me the silver lining is the team's youth. Despite still learning how to play at this level the team has managed to stay above .500 and in first place. These bad stretches may actually help in the long run. If they go through a stretch like this and eventually work through it they will learn how to successfully work through tough stretches quicker in the future.

With pretty much the entire team coming back next year it not only looks like a first place club this year but a legitamate contender for a while. For the first time in a long time the core they are building around have the potential to max out as a top level team.

Silver lining? There's tons of them!

What position player is playing "above their head" right now? I would say Hardy is about the only one. Weeks, Hall, Braun, Hart and Estrada have proven they're capable of better numbers. Not bad odds. One player who may see a decrease in OPS, FIVE who could see an increase.

Pitching- No starter has been lights out. Sheets and Cappy can pitch better than they have. I don't see much of a downside in the starting rotation, they can only improve. Same with the pen. They have not been stellar, I don't see a drop-off coming. Just another MLB mediocre pen with an outstanding closer.

So we have a FIRST PLACE team, with the potential of playing better.

ahh, good to have a closer that is automatic..

I really want to see what this team can do fully healthy. by healthy I mean no wrist problems from anyone. Weeks in the line up instead of graff or counsell.

It looks like Yost learned from the debacle in Philly and brought Coco in to finish the 8th instead of leaving Turnbow out to blow the lead. Now if he can just remember this in the future. Just take a deep breath and repeat after me, Ned...

I don't have to wait until the 9th to bring in Coco...
