Advantage Brewers.

Sort of, except that we face a pretty impressive list of SPs in the next week and a half.

I just meant in that short 3 game stretch. I agree we are going through a meat grinder from here on out. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Cubs have to face 5 straight left handed pitchers. Maholm, Duke, and Gorzellany (sp?) against Pitt and Willis, Scott Olsen in Florida. .257 AVG .318 OBP .416 SLG .734 OPS vs. Lefties. Compared to .274 AVG .336 OBP .415 SLG .751 OPS against righties. Advantage Brewers.

That's great news. I love this thread.

What season was it when the Brewers improbably stepped up against several 'big-time' SPs? Wasn't that recent? I'm thinking '05 based on my memories of that fan fest game vs. Johan Santana. Anyway, just saying.

yeah, hawing, it does seem that the team steps it up a bit against better pitching. I think 2005 is correct.

The Brewers kind of like a football team, in a way. They play down to their competition at times (J. Bennett) like football teams do when they don't take an opponent very seriously (UW vs UNLV), but step it up when they face good pitchers (R. Oswalt) like football teams step up sometimes against good competitition (UW vs Ohio St.).

People might think that the Cubs' win means the Brewers' win didn't accomplish anything tonight. Because the Brewers were big underdogs and the Cubs big favorites, that just isn't true. If the Brewers and Cubs split their next two games, that's a huge win for the Crew.

A better-than-.500 season is still within reach.

That thought can sting, if viewed strictly in the context of the 2007 season; but in the context of the last 15 seasons, I think it still counts for something. I'll be rooting for it this week.

1. I went out of my way to avoid baseball this morning, so I didn't find out about todays's Brewers' loss/Cubs win until after football today, so at least I've numbed the pain (by trying to ignore it) if not recovered yet.

2. Spring Training is about five months away.

The Brewers have a leg up on the Cardinals in beanball wars going into next season!

Exactly! I'm so happy the Brewers have set aside their playoff aspirations in favor of playing the game the "right way." What a fantastic decision. Some fans will be disappointed that this retaliation might very well cost us a shot at the playoffs, but that's just because they were never backup catchers so they don't understand baseball.

I'm beginning to think that the stunt Ned pulled tonight could have been just asinine enough to get Doug Melvin and Mark Attanasio re-thinking their decision to keep him. In a way, it's just about the worst thing he could have possibly done. Even if Ned had sat motionless in the dugout while the team lost the rest of their games, that might have been forgivable. But giving away a pennant chase game to participate in a beanball war? That won't be something that's easy to overlook or forget...

If we don't win the division, this season will be attributed to growing pains of a young and talented group, and we will have gained experience of a pennant race.

On the other hand, IF we do somehow win the division, the Cubs will be forever remember for yet another debacle in a long history of season ending nightmares.
