Shouse should have started this inning. We let emotion for Sheets get in the way of our heads.

IMO, with a 4 run lead and a shutout going, you've gotta keep him in unless his pitchcount is 120+

EDIT: until he gives up the run or gets into huge trouble, that is.

EDIT AGAIN: especially considering how dominantly he was pitching.

With say Capuano I'd agree. But not with a pitcher who just came back from a major injury and hasn't had time to get to full strength yet and not a pitcher who is a sure thing out. Not with a bullpen that can easily blow a 4 run lead by itself much less a 2 or 3 run lead. I'm not going to blast Yost for it because it was an emotional choice so I don't think anything was wrong with it. I just think taking him out was the better choice.

Thats exactly why I'd stick with Sheets. Give him the chance to finish what he started. He didn't quite get it done but ignoring the hindsight, with the way he was pitching, I don't know how you could take him out.

Not for a guy in his second start back from an injury who was already very close to 100 pitches.

He clearly was right at his limit, as evidenced by the first two batters he faced hitting a single and HR. But yeah, he had been dominant.

The smart move there was Shouse.
