7/21/08 Brewers (McClung) at Cardinals (Pineiro): 6:05 CDT

Maybe he's sending a message to Melvin right now...

"GET ME ANOTHER RELIEVER! QUICK!!! Or I'm going to have to keep putting this Mota guy out there."

Is the inning over yet? I turned everything off. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Phillips is talking about how the cost for a reliever is less at this time of year.. what the hell is he talking about. a decent reliever may cost us Gamel.. just look at what Linebrink cost last year.. I can believe he is paid to be commentator and someone actually had him as their GM...

I would gladly listen to Steve Phillips over Brian or Bill.

You must have "Steve Phillips" confused with "Steve Stone", "Steve Physioc", "Steve Lyons", "Steve Mariucci", "Steve 'Snapper' Jones", or "Stevie Nicks". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hey, Mota got through it alive. Whoda thunk?

Yet, if you never pitch Mota and Gagne, you burn out the pen. Yes?
We just got out of the all-star break and our starters averaged over 7 innings per start.

Oh thank you, Mota didn't give up a run.

Yost has shown that if the player is on his roster, he's going to use him. He's not going to limit himself to a 24 or 23 man roster.

Maddux is probably telling Yost that his problems can be corrected. I highly doubt he would still be on the team if he had a track record like Turnbow's.

Weeks got scared on that one...not that I blame him.

I don't think he was scared. The guy was right on top of him when he got the ball so he had to jump out of the way and try to get a good throw off, not easy.

I'm not trying to call you out here, but Inman has struggled lately and more and more scouts aren't high on him. Combine that with Thatcher's struggles this year and it's possible Garrison will be the best player we gave up -- that's a combination of Inman struggling (he's not getting through 5 innings lately because of pitch count issues) and Garrison pitching pretty well this year. I think the Brewers knew Inman at best would be a #4 or #5.

Yeah.. Mota made it through.. on one hand.. he looked pretty good.. nothing out of the IF..

On the other hand taking a lesson from "Little Big League" if you are getting excited about a reliever pitching a scoreless 6th that probably tells you all you need to know about his usefulness.

If Gagne pitches the 7th I might need a pacemaker and I am only 33!

This is the exact reason why so many people can't stand Yost. Always trying to outsmart the fans which usually leads to epic failures.

I highly doubt Yost cares what people on Brewerfan.net think of him, or Brewer fans in general.... and honestly he shouldn't.

I completely agree. I don't think Yost is trying to prove people wrong. He thought Mota could get it done for some strange reason (it's probably very strange) and keeping Mota and Gagne out of any close games would kill a bullpen. The problem is that most MLB teams can have two mop up guys.

That is funny as if you look through other threads I make you exact argument and agree with you completely but if you take where those players where at the time of the trade and factor in they were all pitchers it shows the high price for an above average reliever..

on a unrelated topic "Ha. Aaron Miles.. you are not a god!"

While I would agree that it's not about proving the fans wrong, I think Ned spends a lot of time trying to prove himself right. He does not like to be shown to be wrong and has stubbornly stuck with guys in, I perceive, an effort to not admit defeat.

Actually Mota did just face the bottom half of the order. I wonder if Yost would have brought him in if Pujols was due to hit that inning.

You let him face the 5th batter, he got him out, okay let's try one more...

I think it's hard to know what thoughts were on the three pitchers. I know Inman and to a certain point Thatcher were highly thought of around here and with some scouts. What did other teams think? That's what I'd want to know and maybe those "inside" baseball weren't as high on him.

I don't think it's about proving anybody wrong or right.

It's just that he's going to have a role for all 25 members of his team.

If Melvin gives him the players, he's going to use them. He sincerely believes that Mota is capable of pitching in close games, assuming he fixes his mechanical flaw.
