The First-Ever BF.net, "Pick the Reliever" Contest - Win Tickets to Brewers-Mets

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

If in some unlikely event I were to win, I won't accept the tickets, as I won't be able to make the game.

That said, I'd still like to play. I, too, like Ron Mahay from Kansas City. So I'll say:

Mahay for Robert Hinton and Brad Nelson and the ever scrappy PTBNL.

Escobar and Jeffress for Jonny Papelbon. Might as well shoot for the moon! But seriously, it has to be Jon Rauch. He makes almost TOO much sense, with our unsettled bullpen and his ability to bounce between set-up and relief.

Scott Downs (Toronto, LHP, 1.65 ERA in 43.2 innings) for Salome.

I am clueless when it comes to choosing minor leaguer players to include in a trade. I'm just guessing that Toronto's catchers are old (Zaun, Barajas) and could use a prospect.

chuckie beat me to it. No trades for relievers and Yo Gallardo, Mitch Stetter, Tim Dillard, Luis Pena, Randy Choate..etc..and even maybe maybe Derrick Turnbow will come in and pitch junk innings and keep the "important" relievers fresh. Some order of those guys will be able to come in and get outs at the MLB level even if not in high stress situations.

That being said, I am impartial to a particular reliever and any quality reliever will do wonders for the bull pen, lefty or righty.

Disclaimer** the Turnbow thing is to be taken with a grain of salt.

OK. My guess is that nobody gets dealt. But if I have to make a guess on a trade: Weeks and Salome for Street. Escobar is our shortstop next year with JJ moving to second or third and Hall playing the other position.

I've been discussing this with my friends and the more I think about it, the more I think George Sherrill will be donning Brewer blue in the near future.

Mora/Sherrill

for

Hall/Pena/Nelson/Gillespie

Hall has recently revived his trade value, and I continue to think he is the most apt to be traded for a good, proven bullpen arm. But really, the continued denial over the interest in Sherrill by Melvin (coupled with the murmurs that Melvin refuses to deal Hardy/Escobar for Sherrill) makes me think we'll get a deal done by going with Hall.
