The Brand Spankin' New Huston Street Thread

Since the old Street thread morphed into the new Durham thread, which has now become the old Durham thread, I thought I'd start a new Street thread.

The Brewers are likely to be looking at relief help, maybe Street will still become a target.

1250's pre-game show they had a writer from San Fransico who said basically TH fabricated the whole rumor on his blog and ran a story off of his own rumor. Take that for what it's worth I guess.

What rumor? That Ford may have been traded for Sheet? TH heard that Ford was pulled because he was going to be in a trade (this part turned out to be true). TH knew that the Brewers were scouting Street and that the team wants a bullpen arm (first is true, second has been publicly stated). He guessed (and was clear about it) that the team may have traded for Street.

The JS has their sports writers have a blog specifically for these purposes, to provide info they have and share their insights, beyond what appears in print articles. TH was clear on what his guesses were, what he heard, how reliable his sources were, and what were facts.

There were some rumors that he included that didnt' turn out, but we don't know the full story. We don't know if the teams tried to make a bigger trade and couldn't come to agreement. We know that Ford was pulled because of a trade, which TH told us. We knew the trade details this morning (minus the financial details), but the team couldn't announce it without making a move and clearly wanted Dillon today just in case he was needed.

As far as Street, TH has reported that the team's interest in him has cooled, based on scouting and probably also on Street's poor performance recently. I think the cost of Street's past would be too rich for his current performance and likely future.

I think it's important to note that Crazyk1294 has earned credibility around here and that he's simply reporting what he heard. 1250, of course, has had its own issues, but the "Take that for what its worth" statement has more than covered Crazy's butt in that regard.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

No, actually the part about your butt being covered is supposed to be in blue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm not interested in Street. He hasn't pitched a "clean inning" in almost a month. Torres is a better option at this point.

If they were going to go after a "top shelf" reliever, I'd prefer that it be Rauch as an 8th inning guy. He's only walked 7 guys all year. That said, considering what Washington wanted for Cordero last winter, they probably would ask way too much.

This thread smells like a brand new pair of shoes!

Anyways..

I want Brewer fans who think this is a bad idea to take a trip back with me to 2006..

Player A - 7-4, 4.81 ERA. 1.35 WHIP. 9 blown saves.

Who is this player A? Well im sure you guys already know the answer... Francisco Cordero, I think that worked out well for the Brewers.

And Street is only 24 years old.

The rumor that the Brewers had scouts following Oakland and that must mean Street was been evaluated all was Tom H and in his notes column. Meaning it was in teh actual paper with absolutely no confirmation. And then this rumor which Tom H has no info on suddenly wasn't going to happen because Street had a bad game.

Street still has a good whip overall and a decent k/bb ratio. The numbers are pretty close to what he's done in his career. His last ten innings have been rough. I'd still be pretty pumped if the Brewers landed him.

Look at what we paid for Linebrink who was on the verge of free agency and with less of a resume than Street who we would control for 2 more years. We are not getting him without giving at least one elite prospect and that is just not a price I am willing to pay for a pitcher that has had recent arm problems and has pitched very poorly as of late. I watched him pitched saturday and the results were not what bothered me; it was the lack of velocity and movement on his pitches. Street is not an elite pitcher and I would hate to trade an Escobar or Gamel in order to acquire him.

The thing is that the A's aren't necessarily motivated to move him unless they get a terrific offer. They can hold onto him into the offseason or even the deadline next year and still get a great package for him provided he stays healthy. Long story short, no one is going to get him for cheap.

I would have said the same thing about Harden, but that turned out to be wrong. Obviously Harden's injury concerns are much more worrisome than Street's, but still, Beane is inscrutable.
