Chris Capuano Update?

There was an article mentioning him in the last few weeks. He had surgery in May, and likely won't make news until November when the Brewers have to decide whether to offer him arbitration.

I can't remember where I heard (or read), but Chris sounded like he thought he would be a Brewer next year.

He acted as though it was a given. I would imagine he will just sign a small contract to try and prove he is healthy.

I honestly don't see Cappy as much more than a reliever for us at best next year. I wouldn't expect him to be fully recovered and ready to start again until 2010 if ever.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Capuano did seem oddly optimistic he would be in MIL next year, given his arby status and injured state. He gets it, as he's a smart guy, so maybe discussions have already been had and a handshake minor league deal struck...I had assumed he'd be elsewhere.

Yeah when Coshun interviewed Chris in AZ he did seem confident he would be a Brewer. He also had a shaved head, which was different for Cappy. I always liked Chris, would love to see him with the Brewers in some fashion. Start in AAA and try to work his way back or whatever.

If Cappy wants to be in Milwaukee next year, he probably can be, but it's not likely they'll offer him arbitration, as they'd have to pay him several million to rehab and play in AAA. It's more likely they'll pass on arby, making Cappy a free agent. I wouldn't mind seeing them sign him to a minor league contract in hopes that he makes it back from the surgery.

I think it'd be great to get him in AAA next year. I know he has a long road and nothing is certain, but I don't expect to see too many studs in the AAA rotation next year and that means they'll probably take a shot at some vets and I'd be fine with putting Cappy there and see what happens.

Arby is unlikely as they would have to offer him at least $3M. Perhaps there is a "handshake" agreement that they will offer him a split contract minor league deal that will pay him fairly well for the minors with a significant bump in pay over the ML minimum if he gets called up.

You'd have to think that one of Sheets/Sabathia will be back (Sheets, Gagne, Mota, and Capuano combine for almost $28M), plus Yo, Suppan, Parra, Bush, McClung, Villanueva, and Narron, so even if they lose Capuano I don't think it will have any impact on 2009.

No, you don't have to. We can handle one of those AAVs, but not the total seasons Sheets & CC will likely get in FA. Not to mention that a large chunk of that $28M will go to arbitration raises.
