Alex Meyer and Tim Melville close to signing

The most shocking rumor floating around at this time is that the Red Sox are also very close to signing 20th-round pick Alex Meyer. The six-foot-seven power righty from Indiana has first-round stuff, but he was considered all but unsignable due to the Boras factor and a strong commitment to the University of Kentucky. The hottest rumor among scouting circles has $2 million looking like it will take care of both those issues.

Sources indicate that Missouri high school right-hander Tim Melville, who fell to the fourth round when he indicated before the draft that he wanted mid-first-round money to sign, will get just that and sign with the Royals for more than $1 million.

I'm jealous.

I would think the fact that Melville was drafted by a team in his backyard also had something to do with the ease of negotiations. The Red Sox and Meyers on the other hand....in the 20th round...well we still have a dandy of a bounty from this year's draft, especially when we get LaBat into the Brewer Blue.

I've been looking around since that "rumor" on BP and I haven't seen any information since on Alex Meyer. I'm in a fantasy keeper league and I released Tyler Ladendorf to go pick up Meyer on the off chance he signs. I'd appreciate it if anyone has more information they could post it up. Thanks

Here's his pre-draft profile:

Both Melville and Meyer impressed me with their showings at last summer's Aflac All-American Classic. Meyer is a big, country strong fella with a very good fastball and an improving breaking pitch. Pitching in Indiana, it took him a while for his velocity to show up, and that along with his affiliation with Scott Boras caused him to slide further than he should have.

He's a first-round talent, so he's definitely worth picking up in your fantasy keeper league.
