Fall League ~ Who's In, Who's Out?

lcbj68c

Kenny, Jamie, Somebody with Mod Power, Please pin this the top.

After much research, I have chosen to go with Greenfield Parks & Rec Department as the location for which to try and run the Brewerfan.net Fall League. I have umpired there a handful of times this spring/summer and the professionalism is first class. The Field location seems pretty central to the area. Konkel Park 51st and Layton.

A few highlights:

1) The fields are well prepared
2) There is a fence in the outfield, in most cases eliminating the inside the park home-run.
3) The umpires are all ASA trained and sanctioned.
4) The field lighting is high above the ground.
5) The grass is well manicured, no potholes waiting to eat up our MCL, ACL, MSG and any other ligament / choloesteral abbrevations.
6) They do however use the dreaded 50 minute, 1 swing rules.

A) The season is a five week, ten game season (pending rain), beginning on September 3rd or 4th, through the first week of October.
B) Games can be Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, please state your preference.
C) Team fee is $180.00, which is up for discussion and the player fees are $6.00 for residents and $12.00 for non-residents of the City/Village/Whatever of Greenfield, WI.
D) My deadline is August 7th, though, you know me, I'd like to have to done ASAP.

I ) This is the only Brewerfan.net team that I know of, as there has not been one in the fall in the past.
II ) Having both teams join to form one of team, essentially 20-24 players, is not feasible
III ) Therefore, I have to try and delicately balance a first come, first serve type system while attempting to build the best team possible.
IV) I would not refuse a player who could only play one night a week, but certainly discourage it if at all possible.

Monologue: Yes, I'm the manager / coach. I run a tight ship. I like to win. I like to have fun. With winning comes fun. The spring/summer teams were very well positioned in terms of talent, however, if you want a spot, earn it and it's yours. (Let me clarify what I mean. If you want RF for example, but somebody else has been "grand-fathered" in on previous BF.net teams as the RF, go out and earn it and it's yours. I wont set a lineup or fielding positionings based upon the way it's always been done. Not that anything has been wrong in the past, but I wont be status quo, just to be status quo.) In every team I have ever coached, I have batted last and played catcher. I dont have a personal ego, I just want to win and will put guys in the best position to succeed given the talent. I realize this may be a turn off to some of you who don't like my style. However, I would never embarrass the Brewerfan.net brand name and am really looking forward to the season. In general, this team may seem more serious in terms of winning over fun, but to play two nights a week requires some committment to being a good ballplayer and everything else will fall into place. That said, there isn't a ballplayer on either team that I dont think meets these requirements, yet somehow we have to get from 24 players down to 12-15.

Let me know your thoughts, in or out, best days for you and let's make it happen!

~~Luke

Wow!

Good monologue......the Madison team is also playing fall ball, so if you guys want to set up a practice game, let us know. If the miller park game fell through, then we will host a late summer game in Madison, we will reserve a field and we can make it a party. Just an idea. Let us know.....

Good luck guys.

I can play if you guys have a spot. I pitched for the inaugural Brewerfan team two years ago before my season was cut short by a prior commitment. I pride myself on limiting walks. That said I felt I had a down season control-wise in 2006 even though I walked a respectable 1 batter / 14.30 batters faced. I keep the opponent in single digits and I think my best is ahead of me. If there is no spot at P or I fail to win the job, I've been playing L/LC in my summer league on a team I just began playing with this summer who had a pitcher who'd been with the team for years.

The only negative is that I'll be in Florida Sept. 3-8. If we go Tues/Thurs I think I'd only miss one game if I'm reading your summary correctly.

Here are my stats from 2006...

Some updated notes on the upcoming season.

~~The Fall Team appears set, though I am still looking for one full time body and an additional spot is still being saved for Matt Rink (ValpoMatt) pending his decision to sign his contract or not.

~~ I will register the team as Brewerfan.net and am looking to Johnson Controls as an additonal sponsor for the $180.00 team fee. That would leave player fees at a nominal $12.00 per person, unless you are fortunate enough to work or reside in Greenfield, then it would be $6.00. I have awesome jersey ideas at $15.00 a guy, however that is something that we may not want to invest in given it's a short 10-game season and a long off-season? Your thoughts?

~~I am really happy with the talent that we are accumulating and I think we are going to put a very competitive team on the field and represent Brewerfan.net very well.

~~Here are how things are shaping out for opening night, as it would stand right now.

Aaron and Brent, you are both welcome to fill out the team. Given the death of my Dad shortly after posting the roster/lineup, it was evident that I would need another 2 bodies instead of one and you both are added.

The team is now full and I'll advise on scheduling and other matters in the coming weeks.

I posed the the roster and mock lineup at 1:53. My pops passed away at 2:50 and therefore I had two openings for both Brent and Aaron instead of one. There is a small thread in the Milwaukee team forum.

No problem, Josh. I'll post a practice schedule as soon as things slow down around here a bit. See you then.
