All Star: Statues on Parade

Who else just got this email about auctioning of these statues that I guess were all over New York for the All Star festivities? The whole thing seems a little gratuitous to me and, IMO, was really just a bad, bad marketing idea. I may be bias though, as I always thought the painted cows and those creatures that were all over Milwaukee a few years ago, where really hookie, so to apply that concept onto the Statue of Liberty seems really silly to me.

"This 8.5 foot statue was placed at the Intercontinental, The Barclay located at 111 East 48th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues."

FYI, they are also selling small 9" replicas for around $30. Made by Forever Collectibles who make many of the bobbleheads.

I saw a few of them while I was out over the weekend and had to wonder if it had ever crossed their minds how bad the stickers and graffiti would accumulate on them while sitting on the streets of NYC for a week. I hope they end up cleaning them and touching them up a bit before they are sold. Or maybe the idea is to just sell them "as is" with a little NY "flavor" on them...
