Fall/Winter videogame lineup

I got Halo: ODST this week. I think it is a lot of fun. I have played through probably 2/3-3/4 of the single player campaign. The campaign is short and I can see how people wouldn't want to pay $60 for it.(Campaign is to short for a full game and if you like Halo multi-player you probably already bought all he map packs included.) Luckily Amazon has it for $50 and includes a $10 promotion towards your next video game purchase at Amazon. Firefight is awesome as well. You fight waves of enemies with up to 3 friends. They don't have matchmaking for firefight so you can only play it with your friends, which is lame. If you like Halo, I would recommend it if you can get it for under $60.

I blame Wang.

With GH 5, Beatles Rock Band, Madden, and Halo ODST already out for a few weeks, and Uncharted 2 + Brutal Legend shipping today, I think it's safe to say that the fall videogame season is upon us.

My gaming radar -

Already own: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (360), Madden 10 (360), Prof. Layton and the Diabolical Box (DS)

Will buy, Week 1: Assassins Creed 2 (PS3), Lego Rock Band (PS3)

Will buy, Eventually: Scribblenauts (DS), Uncharted 2 (PS3 - have to finish 1 first), Rachet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time (PS3)

On the periphery: Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS3 / 360), Brutal Legend (PS3 / 360), whatever it is I'm forgetting about right now.

Uncharted 2 is wicked awesome. I got like 15 hours of enjoyment out of the demo, and of course the real game is even better. Too bad I have to share the TV with the ladyfriend tonight.

Curious about this, since I was playing Uncharted 1 last night, and may be picking up the sequel over the weekend (Toys R Us' Buy 2, Get 1 free deal is calling out to me). My major gripe with the first game (just finished the jetski sequence, if that gives you a sense of where I am), is that it forces you into so many 'shoot behind cover' sequences in which the enemies try to outflank you...either I'm not good at them, or it gets to be overkill by the 3rd wave of guys that run into the same setpiece.

There are moments to the game that I've really loved (the rails shooter segment on the back of the jeep), and I really appreciate a lot of the little touches with the surround sound (particulary when your ears start ringing after a nearby grenade explosion). The firefights just make the game a bit more uneven than I like.

Just thought I should point out, it appears as though Best Buy will be holding a "Buy 2, Get 1 free" on video games $59.99 or less starting on Sunday (10/25). For anyone - like me - who missed out on the same sale when Toys R Us had one earlier this month, this is a chance to make up for that oversight.

(For the record: Uncharted 2, R & C Future: A Crack In Time, and Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, assuming they're all available. The new R & C game ships on Tuesday.)

1) I missed the Toys R Us sale.

2) Where did you get the info about the Best Buy sale? I can't seem to find anything on their site.

1) So did I. (Acutally, I went to a TRU on the last day of the sale, only to find that they were sold out of the 3 games I was planning on buying.

2) The Best Buy site won't have it until the new weekly ad goes live on Sunday morning. When it does, the page will look a lot like this. They don't list their ads early, leaving it to sites like CAG to track down the sales before they're public knowledge.

I haven't heard anything about Borderlands, but I'd be interested if it's like those other games. How is the story? Is it very dialog heavy like Fallout 3? Does it have the option to build a good or bad type of character? I'm going to have to do some reading on it.

Not much of a story in Borderlands. I am about 8+ hours in with a level 21 hunter. Feels a lot like WoW. You take quests from people or postings. All the quests have a certain level that is recommended. Quests are labeled as Trivial, Normal or Hard at the bottom of the quest depending on your level it will change. I think you get fewer rewards for lower quests. There are also skill trees for each character which can be respected for a price. Every review I read says it is more fun with more people. There don't seem to be any moral choices yet.

Here is more info on the best buy sale from Slickdeals.net:

Borderlands is noteworthy as it has something like over 1000 wepons if I am not mistaken. Take a look at some reviews and pictures before you buy it though as it may not be what you are suspecting graphically. I think it looks fantastic though.

With the Best Buy sale, I will probably be getting Borderlands, FIFA 10, and something else.

picking up dj hero tomorrow, anyone else getting it. Definitely will be interesting. Didn't really get into Guitar hero because it seemed too easy and they music was mostly older. The music on this game is much closer to stuff i'd listen too and the controls are much more challenging it appears.

Borderlands is in fact a shooter with RPG elements. The quests and character building remind me of WoW although the character building is nowhere as deep. There are way more than 1000 different guns. The guns are randomly generated much like weapons in Diablo or WoW. You could probably play through the game several times and never see the same gun twice. You will probably see similar guns though.

Was out at best buy the other day and they had it set up. After me and 3 friends messing with it for 2-3 minutes each, we still had no idea how to play a note correctly. ha!

Is there online play? Is it only offline action?

I have been playing ARMA II on the PC lately.? Some of the old bugs from the original Operation Flashpoint and ARMA are still there in that game though.? But it is fun once you get a hang of the UI and that it is not just another FPS game makes it even more fun at least for me it does.

Both. You can play by yourself or Co-Op with up to 3 of your friends.

I just got Borderlands the other day and it's pretty good. The RPG elements are definitely minimized...like others said, it's a lot of "go hear, shoot something, report back" type stuff. You can level up fairly quickly and gain new skills and abilities. The guns I've seen so far are pretty creative and varied, and I've only played for a handful of hours. I would say it's sort of a more action oriented version of Fallout 3, with less storyline. I haven't played the online mode yet, so I can't comment on that.

Did anyone else sign up for the Old Republic beta? I beta tested EQ and WOW, so I figured I'd give it a shot but this time it appears the selection process is random based on system qualifications.
