Fall/Winter videogame lineup

I got Call of Duty 4 for my new PS3 for Christmas and it was WAY too short of a game in my opinion. Anyone have any other suggestions for games that would be like CoD 4 but longer?

PLAY ONLINE!

Seriously I think its the best online game ever made.

Yep, I've been playing online for about 2 months now and LOVE it. Awesome stuff. T Bone...are you on PS3 or 360? I'm always looking for another good person to add...

Thanks for that tidbit on COD5 Squirrel. I have COD4 and LOVE it but was considering a move up to 5...maybe that change will wait for COD6 now...

COD4 = me happy in the pants.

I just can't stand being on one side of the map and emptying a clip of StG 44 into someone, and not killing them, yet getting hit once with an MP40 round and dying immediately.

First things first, I'm a strictly PS3 guy....so...

I know I'm way behind the times on this compared to most of you, but I loved loved loved LOVED The Orange Box. It took me a good six months to play through all 3 of the episodes (HL2, E1 and E2). It's easily in my top 5 of games all time, if not #1. I haven't touched Portal yet, wanted to try some different games before I jump back into that. But, if you have never played Half Life (like myself), and want an amazing value, get it today. I bought it new for 60 almost a year ago, but I've seen it now used for 20-ish. Makes me wish they would release the original Half Life on PS3 somehow.

I recently noticed that Bioshock (told you I was slow) got released on PS3, and after hearing how great that was on Xbox, I picked it up last weekend. It's pretty cool so far, but honestly I feel it's getting a little repititive. I'm probably 1/3 of the way in (the submarine just crashed and I'm supposed to go find Ryan now). Like I said, it's cool, just because it's something different, but it's nothing compared to Orange Box. I like the whole Little Sister edge to it....but I'm not gonna lie, it's a little creepy too. It also doesn't seem to have much replay value, so if anyone wants to buy it or wants to trade me something for it in a couple weeks when I'm done with it, let me know.

A new Wolfenstein is coming out this summer on PS3, I'm pumped for that. I've always been a fan.

Bioshock 2 is coming out in Q3 of this year, I guess that'd mean August/September-ish? I suppose it won't get released on PS3 right away either will it? Probably have to wait for a while like with the first one. Don't know if I'll pick it up anyways.

On my waiting list of games to play when I beat Bioshock are CoD 4 / WaW, Assassin's Creed, and Killzone 2. I know there's already a thread dedicated to it, but I also plan on picking up The Show sometime this week or next.

It feels so good to be back into video games. There just isn't enough time in the day!

I see the original Half Life was ported to PS2 for a 2001 release. I bought my 80gb PS3 last November. I seem to be able to play most of my old PS2 games on it, except for SSX which crashes at random points. Anyone know if I'd have an issue with the PS2 version of Half Life? Also looks like Episode Three might come out sometime this year, that'd be great, but if it's as short as Episodes One and Two, I hope they don't expect us to pay 60 for it, after being spoiled with the great Orange Box value.

Another pretty cool looking title by Valve is Left 4 Dead. The other teacher I work with loves it, and my students have said pretty good things about it. Too bad it's only available on Xbox for now.

Parkside - be careful...once you start the online play on Call of Duty 4 you will quickly forget about everything else in life. It is like crack...you just can't get away from it.

Haha, thanks for the warning. Luckily though, I rarely play games online. Like a couple others said, I'm just an off-line single player campaign type of person. I know, I'm maybe not getting my money's worth, especially since PS3's online is free, but I just can't bring myself to going online just so I can get destroyed by 10 year-olds. I'm happy with just playing offline and worrying about my own guy. I'm much more casual that way. That said though, I understand the single player on CoD 4 is crazy short. So, I'll just wait until I can get it for 20 or less used, or just rent it sometime. Still though, I have a hard time paying 8 bucks to rent a game from Blockbuster. I think that's what it was the last time I was there. Yikes.

Razzzor, does RE5 kind-of feel more like an action game than a survival horror game? From some of the reviews I've read of it, it sounds like the game's lost a bit of its creepy nature in favor of a more action-packed feel. Either way, I'm planning on buying the game soon -- RE4 is my favorite game of all time.

I would say that's a fair assumption. Like many have said and I would agree with, it has a Black Hawk Down feel to it. What I am hoping for is that they wanted to keep things fresh and do something a little different before going back to the dark-zombie horror game the next time around. Still nothing better than Resident Evil the original.

Some good deals going on right now on games that have been discussed here. Both can be found on the weekly ads on their websites.

Gamestop has their Game Days sale, with Valkyria Chronicles for $29.99.

Toys R Us has a sweet buy one get one 50% off sale. Titles include Street Fighter 4, Killzone 2, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil 5 (only for 360) and several other recent big releases.

Lots of good deal this week, especially if you want to buy a game to flip it on Ebay or Goozex. My buddy and I picked up three copies of the Your in the Movies for the 360 for ten bucks with free shipping this morning on Amazon. It includes the camera, which makes it worth it for that alone. Figure, keep one for a fun drinking party game and flip the other for some new games. Other deals that I like this week is the $9.99 Aerosmith guitar hero game at Gamestop, and Wario Shake It for the Wii for $14.99 at Shopko.

I really like RE5, but it is more action based than the past ones. As I have gotten deeper into the game though, it has taken on more of a classic RE feel. It is no where near as good as RE4, which is my favorite shooter of all time, but it is still a very good game. The chick sucks though, she waists all your ammo...I just give her the cattle prod and a handgun, then basically play the game through by myself.

I have a slew of games coming from goozex this week....Saints Row 2, Orange Box, Blue Dragon, Tiger Woods 09...so I am going to be in the weeds for a bit. However I also have NHL 2k9 coming and have a few questions.

I got the game since it was cheaper then NHL 09, even though it seems like all the reviews are in favor of 09. To those that have played either one, did I make a mistake? I don't follow hockey so realism is not so important. I just want arcade style hockey that I can pick up and play with friends. I really enjoyed the 3vs3 demo hockey that EA put out, so that is where my skill in hockey is at.

I was all over this game at $60; it is easily the best game that I have played on any of the current generation of consoles (PS3, 360, Wii, DS).

For $30, you really owe it to yourself to pick up the game.

(No, I'm not bumping the thread to evangelize Valkyria Chronicles again....although there is new DLC available...)

With the shipment of the much-hyped, much-delayed, Ghostbusters game this week (in stores today or tomorrow, depending on how they restock), I thought I'd give the games thread a bit of a bump to see what you're playing / interested in for this year.

It's mostly sequels for me this year: Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 1 & 2, and the new Rachet & Clank game. The only new IP that I'm really looking forward to is Scribblenauts -- a DS game you really have to see played in order to understand.

Current gaming rotation: World of Warcraft, Mass Effect (360), Fire Emblem (DS) & Rock Band / Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta (PS3 - although I haven't played either in awhile).

100% going to buy

Halo: ODST - Not playing as a Spartan this time(have it preordered already)

Mass Effect 2 - Loved the first(waiting to preorder until I get something cool with it)

Waiting to buy until the review

Borderlands - Looks like a fun concept. Could go horribly wrong.

Final Fantasy XIII - I would love to get a good RPG. Hopefully this is it.

Probably going to wait for a price drop or buy on EBAY

Bioshock 2 - Liked the first, but most of that was due to the story. Not sure they can make a sequel with as good a story

Army of 2:40 days - Liked the first a lot. Not sure I really want to pay full price though. The first was much more fun with a friend.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Liked the first a lot. Not sure I really want to pay full price though.

Probably going to rent

Red Faction:Guerrilla

Also on the radar

Diablo 3

Section 8 - Shooter.

I don't play games much during baseball season.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.
