Finished Gears 2 a couple nights ago. Let me say that Epic sucks at making vehicles. A tank that turns wherever you point the turret is just lame. I really liked the game although they didn't really reveal anything about the story. More questions than answers. I am looking forward to playing COOP, horde mode and insane difficulty. Maybe it was being used to the way the game is played, but I thought it was easier than the first game.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I finished the Fallout 3 after 85 hours of gameplay and I can say without a doubt that it's the most immersed I've been in a video game in a long while. It's a top five game for me. I started up a new game file right away and I am 10 hours into it, but I think I'm going to take a break from video games for a couple of days.

I want to play Fallout and Fable again. An unopened copy of Gears of War 2 is sitting on my desk and I'm curious about Left 4 Dead, but right now I'm on hiatus so I can go outside.

Hey guys,

What would you recommend as a shooter game for this fall? I have a PS2 and have really liked the Metal of Honor series....

Thanks,

Hammer

I don't think there is much in the way of new ps2 shooters on the horizon. "Call of Duty: World at War Final Fronts" should have released last week, but I can't find a review on it. If you think that you might want to upgrade to a PS3 at some point, I would point out that the Rock Band 1 bundle for PS2 just dropped in price (and the instruments are forward compatible).

I'm about 5 hours into Fallout 3. I really like it, but it's the first RPG type game I've ever played. I usually stick to sports and first person shooters, so I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm not sure how to level up. Do I just level up naturally as I collect more stuff and kill more things? Right now I can't complete any of the side quests because I can't hack into computers yet because my science attribute isn't high enough, and I can't get into some doors and chests because my lockpick isn't high enough.

I'm also addicted to certain things I kept taking to help heal me because I don't know what the stuff is that I pick up, no idea what it does, so I just take it when I'm injured. The instruction manual probably has answers but I rented the game from Gamefly so I don't have one.

I have COD5:WAW for PS3. Had it pre-ordered for sometime. Heres my take on it. Its a love it or hate it type of game. Personally, I love it. The maps are much more creative, and some are much much larger. The guns are pretty cool, the perks are kick butt and the online play seems more run and gun. I dont play it for anything other than MP, so I cant comment on the game itself. I have heard it isnt that great though. The last stand perk now has the option of healing another player who is in last stand which is awesome. The tanks are a bit overpowered as are the dogs which replaced the helicopter. If you get dogs on you on one of the smaller boards, its game over. Its pretty easy to pull kill streaks of 15+...Bouncing Bettys have replaced Claymores and the animation is way cooler. The death animation is also pretty gory and cool, watching limbs being blown off. The anti-tank grenades can be tossed at opponents and stuck to their head, which is funny when they try to run away only to blow up anyways. The sounds could use some work, the game is much quieter than 4. The game has had some server issues the 1st week, so that was a pain in the butt. Overall though, its a clone of 4 in a different era, with some minor changes.

The great thing about this game is that there is no "wrong" way to build your character. You can specialize your character in anyway you want based on weapon preference, karma, speech preference, etc. I think a good starting build for S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is high on Intelligence (maybe a 9), Endurance and Luck and low on Charisma (maybe a 1 unless you want Speech opitions). As far a Skills go, early on you want lots of Lockpick, Science, Medicine, Repair and a weapon speciality of your choice. I wouldn't waste points on Barter and the same with Speech (unless you want Speech options). As far as Perks early on, I would use Intense Training on the first few levels and then Comprehension and Educated.

There is no wrong way to play as long as you are having fun. For new characters I would also recommend stocking up on Nuka Cola Quantums as you play for a bonus later.

I really really liked 4, and I bought 5. But 4 is so great I really just don't want to stop playing it. But zombie mode is fun on 5.

Just to be the one to say it, CoD:WaW =/= CoD5. This year's Call of Duty game was developed using the CoD4 engine, but the game was developed by Treyarch (who did CoD3). CoD4 was such a successful game, the Developer (Infinity Ward) was granted exclusive rights from Activision to make the numeric games in the sequence. Next fall's game will be "Call of Duty 5" by Infinity Ward.

Too busy playing Valkyria Chronicles to worry about any other fall releases; unfortunately, I'll probably finish the game by the weekend.

I picked up Fallout 3 to play while on vacation.

Can I stop walking around please? Seriously, it's a drag on the game play when you have to wonder around destroyed DC to attempt to find some place, I just wanted to go to G&R Lobby, turns out I can't seem to get there.

I had the same problem, if you are on the Galaxy News mission just select it's location on the world map and follow the arrows. It will take you through the subway tunnels, and eventually lead you out right in front of the building.

Also, once you have discovered a location you can fast travel there at any time, you don't need to walk. A lot of times I will walk to the location of a mission on the way there lose a lot of health and ammo, and then as soon as it says I discovered the location I'll just fast travel back to Megaton, or wherever you want to get supplies and restore health, and then fast travel right back to the location.

Anyone find Lincoln's Repeater (the gun) yet?

I know that I'm way behind the curve, but I just finished Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic today. Only took 45 hours of gameplay, which took about 2 weeks of on-again off-again playing on my laptop.

Great game. Those of you that said I would enjoy it were right.

I got Call of Duty 4 for my new PS3 for Christmas and it was WAY too short of a game in my opinion. Anyone have any other suggestions for games that would be like CoD 4 but longer?

Valkyria Chronicles has running and shooting, but it's a strategy game and not an FPS. (VC is the # 1 game that I'd recommend to anyone with a PS3....in case you couldn't tell from all the references in this thread.)

If the game has to be an FPS, you might want to take a Look at Resistance 1&2 (haven't played personally). If you just want to shoot stuff, and don't mind some occasional deviations from the running and shooting, try out Rachet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. (The game looks beautiful on an HDTV, and is just fun.) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a another shooter-esque game, but comes off as more of an improved Tomb Raider game than a pure shooter, but there's still quite a bit of gunplay (again, haven't played). I've heard mixed things about the PS3 version of SOCOM, but that's another title you may want to look at if you're that into multiplayer shooters. And I would be remiss if I failed to point out that Call of Duty: World at War is based on the CoD4 engine.

Finally, if you haven't played it on PC (or 360), you're getting a ton of game for your $ by picking up The Orange Box. Team Fortress 2 (great multiplayer FPS), Half Life 2, and HL2 Episodes 1 & 2 (single player FPS), and Portal (first person, 3d comedy/puzzle/platformer) all on one disc.

COD4 was fast, but it was very well done. I enjoyed it, even though it was only a few hours play time.

Ahhh.. I was following the lines, I get to the train station and get lost in the tunnels. I just explored and found some (oops didn't know it was a bad word) lady of the night I freed, and got a mininuke launcher. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

BTW, it's very easy to steal in Rivet city. Use Z to hold the weapon, take it to a corner, BAM... free stuff. It says I lose Karma, but I'm still a peacekeeper with angel wings.

I've played the 1st one and it's great, though it was too short. The sequel is supposed to be even better but also too short. I just picked up some mediocre games (Haze, Turok, Quake Wars) for $10 each with free shipping, so I'll be busy with those until I decide there's something really worth $60.

Oh, and Battlefield: Bad Company is pretty good and can be had for $30 new or $20-ish used on Amazon. I might be tempted to buy a copy now, but I've already played it a bit at my friend's house. Download the demo and see what you think.

*Also, if anyone's up for swapping PS3 games, I have Grand Theft Auto 4 and Assassin's Creed that I'd be willing to trade. My short list includes Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Fallout 3.

Well, I'm probably 3/4 of the way done with Fallout 3. Just found out about the president, it started slow but now that I've leveled some and have bunch of guns, the game is totally fun. Not my GOTY (That goes to L4D so far) but it's pretty fun.

Yeah it's in the museum of history connected to the Ghoul's city near downtown. The gun should be in the last room you get to (with a glowing ghoul in it) and it is in a small locked cabinet in the back left of the office. It's hard to find ammo for (.44 magnum), but it's pretty much the only gun you'll ever need in the game. Repairs with the hunting rifle, so it's pretty much always full strength.

I already had found the gun, I was just asking if others found it as well, so we can all bask in it's awesomeness. I like to just explore and find all the good guns, I am over 50 hours in and probably only half done with the main quest. I got the Kneecapper after the Nuka Cola Challenge, I got the Terrible Shotgun from someone, and I'm mad that I got the A3-21 Plasma Rifle but immediately sold it because my energy weapons skill was low, not realizing it was probably the best gun in the game.

Also, while doing the stealing independence quest I never encountered the girl that is supposed to help me, and I completed the quest so I can't get the special gun she carries, and during the quest I got locked out of the computers in the museum of technology, and can never get the special chinese assault rifle, unless theres a way to get it without using the computers?

With winter forcing me to play more video games, just wanted to plug a site that I have been using. Goozex is a video game trading site, but instead of getting ripped off at a gamestop giving you wholesale prices, you actually get credit for what the game is worth.

Basically, its a video game trading site between people. You post what games you would like to trade, and post what games you would like to get. When somebody requests your game, you mail it out to them, and when they receive it, they will give you the feedback to get your credit. For instance, I mailed out Madden 09 and got $45 in credit today. Yesterday, I got Soul Caliber 4 for $40 in credit, so in a sense traded Madden for Soul Caliber and still have some credit left. All Goozex does is charge you $1 per trade that you receive. I have done a few trades the past few weeks, and not a problem. With game rentals approaching ten bucks, seems to be a cheaper way to play a ton of games at a smaller cost. There is a referal program that gives you one free trade and $5 in free credit for your first trade...not a plug but free is good.
