Fall/Winter videogame lineup

logan82
Just to get this back on the first page of OT, the demo for Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) was released on Thursday with the latest episode of Qore in the PSN store. (...or, if you've taken the time to figure out how to access the European PSN store, for free.) Aside from Rock Band 2 (which finally comes out for PS3 next sunday), Valkyria is my most anticipated game of the holiday season.

I was just about to post that. Awesome deal.

I went with the Arcade for $169, an HDMI cable from Monoprice, and a $20 20 gig HD from ebay. Victory!

Something you should at least know about before making the trek to eBay. Whether it's a better deal depends on whether 3 months of Live is worth $10 to you; if nothing else, it would give you more recourse should something go wrong with the HD.

Do NOT buy Live through your 360 with your credit card! Why pay the normal fee when you can go to Best Buy or any other store and buy the 12 month card and get a month free. I did the mistake of paying for the full year with my credit card straight through with my 360. Yeah it is easier to do it by just buying the subscription but you don't get a deal at all for paying up for a whole year. Which is odd. Every thing if you pay up for a whole year in advance you normally get a discount. Not with Microsoft apparently but if you buy the card in the store you get a month free for the exact same price you are paying for the subscription.

I agree. Go to a place like Buy.com. I got a 12+1 month card for about $45 with free shipping and no taxes. Look around the internet for deals on Wii points, Microsoft points and Microsoft subscription cards. Those things go on sale from time to time.

Edit: Just checked Buy.com and the 12+1 month cards are $43.24 with free shipping.

I am earning money right now in Fable 2. I think if you liked the first Fable you would like the second one. It appears that the only ways to make money is to find it in chests, do lame mini game "jobs," or buy property. You get money every 5 minutes when you buy property even when you are not playing. This of course has led to people unplugging their Xboxes from their internet and changing the dates to earn millions of dollars without doing anything.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been consumed by Fable 2 for the past week and I'm now starting Fallout 3. Fable 2 highly addictive and I recommend it to anyone who's a fan of the original Fable, the Zelda games, the Sims, or any non-traditional RPG/action-adventure games. It's got a good amount of noticeable glitches, but in the long run it doesn't take away from the gameplay. The story is great and there is always a task to complete, so you are never left wandering around looking for something to do. I'll try and report on Fallout 3 if I get some time to play.

EDIT: I don't understand these people taking advantage of a glitch to get max money in Fable 2. Why not play the game the way it was designed to be played?

I lost sleep last week playing Fable 2. There is always one more thing to do before quitting. Before I finished it the first time I set up a couple more characters to earn money so when I play through my 2nd and 3rd times I will have a nice stash of money. It really doesn't take long to play through, but there is enough freedom to do almost anything that it will keep me busy for quite a while. You get a disorderly conduct and anger the villagers if you use the "pickup line" gesture while running around without clothes.

as long as there as has been video gaming, there have been people exploiting holes in the code to cheat to win.. Doesn't matter what type of game that's always been the case. I see it mostly FPS... like GOW where people were constantly out of the maps, chainsaw glitch, reload glitch, weapon sliding, etc.. in COD4 people glitch up on buildings where they aren't supposed to be, reload glitch, the same with Halo 2 except add in stand by and modding... It was way worse for the original FPS shooter games on the computer like Half Life (Counter Strike) and the original COD... People using wall hacks (see through walls) and auto aiming (head shots) were pretty rampant. I was an admin at one of the larger servers hosted nationally and these people ruined the games for me as I spent all my time banning people and didn't have time to play. The 360 hasn't been bad, but now people are buying those mod controllers, I come across a couple of mod controllers every day in COD4, I'd rather be good at something, than gimp my way to a level of achievement... like those clowns that hack the servers and modify their stats for games like COD4.

all reasons that you issue is the number one reason that I don't play my videogames online, unless it's with someone that I know.

There is absolutely no fun involved if you're playing a game in which half of the opponents (or more) are cheating.

You know it's funny, cheating pushed me from Counter Strike to an MMRPG in Everquest (which I beta'd and played), cheating, ninja looting, loot whoring and general dishonesty surrounding the end game in EQ pushed me to COD, cheating in COD pushed me towards console gaming and the WOW beta (I haven't played the final but I really enjoyed the PVP in all stages of the beta). Cheating in Halo2 had me looking foward to GOW, to COD4, and now to GOW2. The older I get the more I like gaming on Xbox live, get in, have some fun, get out and get some other things done, but there's always another game coming that I'm intrigued by.

I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, but there is a game coming out for the Wii called Deer Drive. Not much info on it, but it is more of an arcade style deer hunting game. I grew up hunting and love to play arcade style shooters, so hopefully it'll be good.

Is anyone else looking forward to Tom Clancy's EndWar? I basically geeked out when I found out about the game, forgot about it while it got delayed, and re-geeked out when I downloaded the demo on the Playstation Network. It comes out tomorrow and from what I know you can basically play the entire game with one button and a headset.

Apologies for the JP screenshot, but it's the only one I could find that wouldn't re-size most readers' screens. Valkyria Chronicles is a game that I cannot recommend highly enough; a Strategy / RPG that's a fun to play as it is to look at. I'm only a few battles in after buying it last night, but this is my kind of game. PS3 owners owe it to themselves to at least download the demo from the PSN store (it's free now; no need to buy last month's issue of Qore) and give it a try.

I was a bit disappointed with the Mirror's Edge demo, but Endwar seemed pretty cool. I've downloaded the Valkyria demo, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm trying to decide between Resistance 2 and Fallout 3 for my next purchase, but after hearing that Resistance 2 is 10 hours long, I think I'll wait until a friend beats it and just borrow theirs for a weekend.

I'm about 10 hours into Fallout 3 and just loving it. I've spent most of my time just wondering around and doing side questions, so I've barely touched the main quest. You can basically make a game last as long as you want to, with everything there is to do.

I'm at 50 hours of gameplay in Fallout 3 since November 2nd, which is about 5-6 hours a day of play. This game sucks me in and I forget what time it is. I started turning off my phone so I won't get bothered while I'm playing. It's really unheatlhly and addictive, as evidenced by that fact that I'm finishing up for the night at 5am. If you are a fan of video games you owe it to at least give this game a few hours of play.

I'm at level 19 right now and really not even close to the end of the main quest.

Fallout 3: I am at level 15, and have played for over 60 hrs (I sometimes pause it while I do something where I know I will be back to play later in the day so that number could be wrong). This game has been more than helpful at passing the time since getting laid off from my job. I almost feel guilty playing it so much while collecting unemployment, but in this economy theres not much I can do.

I can honestly see myself playing through it again as an evil character, as there are so many options/towns/people that wont interact with me the way I know they would if I were a bad guy. And also, who doesn't love whipping out towns of innocent people trying to scrape together a life in a post apocalyptic wasteland.
