Fall/Winter videogame lineup

With the 360 and Wii we have a dozen rechargable AA batteries and just swap them out whenever they run out. Super easy. Haven't bought batteries for it in years. I really don't want to spend the extra money nor do I feel I should have to just to charge a controler. Seems like a big oversight by Sony. I hate batteries in electronics that can't be changed without tools.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Question about "The Show":

How do I set a song not originally in the game as my RTTS player's entrance music? I have some songs I uploaded to my PS3 in the game's "Jukebox". They play during the game, but I can't figure out how to select one of these tracks as my players music. Anyone know how I do this?

The Show: I don't have it in front of me, but I do remember you have to go to the "sounds of the show" menu to set up the starting and ending points of the song. Then you need to edit your player (you can still edit most of your player in the middle of RTTS). On one of the pages is walkup music. Your music will be listed at the end after the included music. I'll try to come back later with better detail.

360: You can press the power button and the 360 stops outputing video/audio. I consider it "on" since the fan attachment/jet engine continues to run. Also, if the unit is off and you plug in the controller, it doesn't start charging.

Why would you even bother plugging it in to charge? You can go to the store and buy rechargeable AA's with a charger cheaper and then just swap them out as they die. They also work with the Wiimotes. No plugging them in and having a wired controller if the batteries die. Of course the fact that you have to actually buy a charging cable in the first place sucks. Ditto for the Wii.

Agreed. I use one of those dual chargers(with the xbox battery pack instead of AAs, but it's the same concept). I just switch them out when one dies. Real easy. But yes, having to buy it in the first place blows. But, I've had them since i got the 360 a few years ago. It's paid for itself several times over, IMO.

With playstation network down for the counts I have been able to hit some of my single player games. Im on the 4th 'chapter' in DAO and im at chapter 9 in Final Fantasy. Thats one plus of not being able to raise my online rank in the show.

yup, another awesome looking movie, er video game, that won't be coming to PC. Like Red Dead Redemption. Sigh. Oh well, I refuse to pony up for a console when I already have a killer game machine so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

It does look really cool, though. I like those period piece games more than fantasy or sci-fi games.

I don't get it. Are you saying you think LA Noire will be more like an interactive movie than a game? I would expect Rockstar to dial in the game play pretty well even if it is a little unique.

And why on earth would you spend your money on a PC for gaming and not a console these days? I haven't heard of anyone doing that since Counter Strike was big.

I use my PC to play games that are more simulation type of games plus MMO's do not play very well on a console. ?

There is no way this game would run on a console.
?

I have also found a disturbing trend in the PC gaming industry it looks as though all of the innovation for PC games has been coming from Russian or Eastern Europe game developers while most American developers are just churning out Call of Duty clones and other type of game clones. ?

I'm not planning on starting a holy war of consoles vs. PC gaming rigs. They both have their merits and they both have their druthers. I don't have a console because I already have a killer gaming rig and tons of games yet to be played.

as for the LA Noire game/movie comment, I completely understand that the trailer that was posted was basically a bunch of cutscenes plastered together. I have yet to see any actual gameplay from the company. I think it'll be a great game, as most Rockstar games are. And it will have some very good cinematic moments. I do NOT think it will just be an interactive movie. But I haven't seen any game play videos to show me how the game will actually look when a person actually plays it.

It's kind of like Mafia II (and many other big games these days.) They make trailers that look the bomb but they're just cut scenes put together. So it makes you want to buy the game. And then you get said game and play it and it sucks. That's pretty much Mafia II (or so I've heard. I own it but have not played it yet. At least I only paid $5 on a Steam sale instead of the retail price.) It is, supposedly, most definitely NOT Mafia I (a game I absolutely loved.)

No worries about a holy war. I just didn't understand your comment. LA Noire will draw a lot from movies like most Rockstar games it seems, but I do expect the game play to be pretty awesome.

I totally forgot about a lot of the simulation games I used to play back when there was more of a PC gaming culture. I do miss some of that, but I have never played an MMO and don't have the time or interest to start. For me at least, all of the drawbacks of a gaming console are more than made up for in that I can play them on my couch on my plasma TV. I know you can sorta do this with a PC but theres just something so casual about firing up Uncharted2 by pushing a button while laying on my couch.

First of all, want to defend poor Mafia II here. Would I buy it at $59.99...no...but you can find that game now for $14.99 or less now. At that price its a steal. Great music in the game, and I thought the humor was pretty good at spots. What other game gives you the option of collecting actual vintage Playboy centerfolds as an achievement?

Good news that Playstation online service is finally rolling out now. The outage did give me a chance to catch up on some PS3 games that didn't require online. God of War Collection, and Valkyrie Chronicles have been sitting collecting dust for far too long. I have to give props to those in the thread that recommended Valkyrie earlier....great game, but wished it had some online play. I picked up a dirt cheap Samsung 3D TV using a friends work discount to get it under cost, so am curious if people have any thoughts on their 3D gaming experiences on the PS3.

Really looking forward to the new Twisted Metal game coming out this fall. Trailers look pretty sweet, and I have some great memories of Twisted Metal 2 and can still remember the button sequence for homing fireballs. Its a shame that it took this long to get Twisted Metal on the PS3.

Just thought I'd point out that the PSN is now underway of being online. Regions are being opened up at I write this, I am guessing Wisconsin will be online by 2 or 3 am.

Really? I am getting tired of the hackers myself. I really hope they are trying to steal info and not doing it just to mess with sony...because its the people who play online who pay here.

I mean....I dont actually hope they are trying to steal info...you know what I mean.

You are basically hoping there is a point to all this, rather then them going "Ha ha, your security stinks and we can break into it."

I am hoping that they are just doing it to mess with Sony. I have a PS3 account and I don't want my personal information out there.

As do I. I just hope they arent like...haha, look at what we can do. Cuz thats lame. But, I also don't want them to be like...haha, we stole all of your info.

The whole information is frustrating.

Im also just figuring that they already have my information. I am waiting to hear from sony on that one year protection plan.

I guess the hackers bought server power from Amazon's service in order to launch the attack. I don't know what that means really but from what I read its the first time someone has legally purchased something like this in order to launch a hack.
