The "Beat the Reds" photo thread

Remember at the beginning of the season how we laughed at the fact that Dusty was dumb enough to place Patterson as their leadoff man? Over half of the season is now over and in 194 ABs, Patterson has a .222 OBP!!! and HAS NOT WALK IN HIS LAST 114 AT BATS!!!!! and that crazy speed that baker loved? 10 SBs with 5 CS. I knew he was a horrible player but now it's like a bad car wreck on the side of the road.. you just can't turn away.

If Corey Patterson was being intentionally walked, he would pop out to the 1st basemen in foul territory.

If he plays at all this weekend, I'm going to be crazy excited it he reaches ball three.

Is that the same Corey Patterson that took Gagne deep?

"I think walks are overrated unless you can run... If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps. But the guy who walks and can't run, most of the time they're clogging up the bases for somebody who can run."

"Who's been the champions the last seven, eight years? ...Have you ever heard the Yankees talk about on-base percentage and walks? Walks help. But you ain't going to walk across the plate. You're going to hit across the plate. That's the school I come from."

"It's called hitting, and it ain't called walking. Do you ever see the top 10 walking? You see top 10 batting average. A lot of those top 10 do walk. But the name of the game is to hit."

"Boy, [Norris Hopper] can hit that ball hard. He's a strong little dude. The ball made a loud sound. I use my ears a lot. I can tell what kind of bat speed [he] has by that sound." (Hopper, by the way, has 1 major league home run)

"All I've seen is stats. There's more to being in the big leagues than just stats. Everyone is so stat-conscious. You get away from: Can he do the little things ... to play winning baseball?"

"I'm big on driving in runs and scoring runs. Guys in the middle should score about close to equal to what they drive in. On-base percentage, that's fine and dandy. But a lot of times guys get so much into on-base percentage that they cease to swing. It's becoming a little bit out of control."

"(Votto) needs to swing more. I'd like to see him more aggressive."

"[baseball]'s a stupid game sometimes." -- Ryan Braun

Josh Fogg is no longer a Pirate, we need not fear him.

One of my favorite emoticons from the Reds board. I used to see this a lot when Bill Hall hit against them.
