08/18/2006 - Astros (Backe) @ Brewers (Ohka) 7:05pm CDT

Houston Astros (58 - 63)

Brandon Backe RHP (3-2, 3.93 ERA, 1.50 WHIP)

Backe lasted just five innings in his outing Aug. 13 against the Padres following a couple of solid, seven-inning performances. He took his first loss since July 22 despite allowing only three runs. Hits have been a problem for him, though. He's allowed 31 of those over his last four outings, but he's managed to win two of his last three decisions, anyway. Backe was, at least, able to escape two different bases-loaded situations against the Padres.

Milwaukee Brewers (57 - 64)

Tomokazu Ohka RHP (3-3, 4.30 ERA, 1.40 WHIP)

Ohka, who had surrendered nine total runs in the first innings of his previous two starts, got through a scoreless opening frame on Sunday at Atlanta. But he got into trouble in the third inning, issuing three consecutive two-out walks, including a pass to Andruw Jones that forced in a run. Brian McCann followed with a two-run double for a 3-0 Braves lead. After going 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in his first three starts off the disabled list, Ohka is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in his last three starts. Ohkas last starts vs. Houston was 5 innings worked, 1 Unearned run, 2 BB and 4 SO.

Oswalt is 50-50 to start tomorrow, and he was supposed to make a decision sometime today according to the Astros site.

My friend and I will be going to the game tonight, so hopefully Tomo will throw a good one. My only other trip to MP this season was Bush's first home start against Arizona.

That kid Scott is a stud.

Tough to call a 28 year old a kid, considering he was in A+ Ball (with a .845 OPS, BTW) in his age 26 season. Basically, he's a career minor leaguer who is having a hot streak. Luckily for him, though, it's the first AB's of his season.

This is essentially how players become overrated. They have a hot streak early in their first season (though in the same amount of AB's last year he sucked in MLB).
