Rooting for LAD, NYM, NYY to finish 13-15 in overall standings?

With Sheets and CC as free agents, that would be optimum correct? Top 15 give up their 1st rounder while bottom 15 give up a second round pick?

Currently the Mets sit at #15. Dodgers are 1 game back at #18. Yankees are #11.

What other teams do we need to worry about? Houston (#22)? Atlanta (#20)?

If #15 & #16 finish tied, how do they determine the cutoff?

How are the compensation picks awarded? If Sheets and Sabathia are the highest-ranked FA targets do we get #31 and #32? What other FA targets are out there this offseason?

Sorry for all the questions, but 5 of top 35 has me excited already for 2009.

actually, top 15 give away their 2nd rounder, and bottom 15 give up their 1st rounder.

? That's backwards, the teams that do the best and sign the free agents get penalized the most. Bottom 15 are 2nd round picks, top 15 are 1st round picks.

The pick is then determined by the previous seasons record. I think that's a much better system than other sports, which use a coin flip.

You have it correct. I'm not sure what positional players are available, but Sheets and Sebathia will definitely the 2 highest rated pitchers. It based on the latest 3 seasons, so Sheets ranking will be hurt some by his past injuries.

Also, is possible the Brewers could add supplemental picks from losing type B free agents. Gagne was 1 last year. If he gets it together, he could be 1 this year. Shouse will be at least a type B.

What if lets say New York Yankees sign both CC and Sheets, do we get 2 first round picks plust 2 1st round comp. picks or how does that work?

The first 15 picks of the first round are protected (which is why the Brewers got second-round choices from Cordero and Linebrink, not first-rounders), but the Yankees almost certainly will finish in the top half of MLB and thus have a pick between 16-30, so in your hypothetical scenario the Brewers would get the Yankees' first-round pick, two supplemental picks, and the Yankees' second-round pick--I think. I'm not sure what would happen if the signing team had a protected first-round choice; can anyone answer that?

The picks just get bumped back a round. In that scenario, yes, the Brewers would get the Yankees first and second round picks. If a team were to do the same thing (or sign a different Type A FA whose Elias ranking is higher than that of Sheets and/or Sabathia) then you would get their 2nd and/or 3rd rounders.
