I just got a text from MLB that Suppan is going on the 15-day DL to make a spot for CC on the 25-man roster.

Now all we need to do is have Mota go on the DL with tippapitchitis and we're set.

Just for fun I threw together a pitching rotation for the 2nd half.

 

If they start out with Sabathia then Sheets, for those first two games at San Fran...

 

"The Big 2" will pitch the last two games at St. Louis (July 23, 24), AND the first two games of the Chicago series (July 28, 29).

 

 

 

For even more fun...

 

In order to get them both 15 starts in the 2nd half, they would have to pitch them both once on only three days rest. This part also takes into account skipping a start for one of the 3, 4, 5, starters a few of times on the off days. In my rotation, Sabathia pitches the last game of the year against the cubs.

If only there was some way (once Suppan comes back) to "platoon" Bush and McClung to finish off the year. Let Bush start the home games when the 5th spot comes up in the rotation and let Seth pitch the road games. When they aren't pitching, they can work in relief the day of and a day or 2 after their "skipped" start if they are needed.

 

Reason: Bush is clearly a different pitcher at Miller Park and McClung's numbers as a starter are very similar on the road vs at MP.
