Yeah that's what makes that double steal attempt even more annoying. I'm happy with the 4 runs but that steal attempt seemed so stupid.

The double-steal there is just not smart, and Cam getting gunned down even with a great jump is good evidence why. Run expectancies below.

I think the fact behind the steal was that with Kendall up the OF was shallow so Cameron wasn't going to score on a hit and with the pitcher coming up next they wanted to try to score with Kendall..

 

Look at what happened to the pirates here were they couldn't score from second on a hit by the pitcher..

 

Any caught stealing looks dumb in hindsight.

Dumb pitching by Suppan against Duke cost him 3 runs. Fastball fouled off because he swung late. Fastball looked at for a strike. Breaking ball down the middle? You don't throw slow stuff over the plate to a pitcher who can't hit your fastball when it's 0-2.
