What exactly are the Brewers doing with Josh Romanski?

I know I have not been shy about questioning Rene Gonzales as a manager (and by the way, did I miss why the very highly regarded Charlie Greene was managing the other day), but Mass brought up some salient questions about the Helena roster management. To piggyback off of that, I am wondering what the Brewers are doing with their 4th round pick, as the two-way star was apparently drafted as a pitcher, but has yet to make a pitching appearance, instead going 5 for 12 with 3 doubles as a DH. Is this the way they are going to go with him, or do they simply not have a real plan?

My level of confidence in some aspects of our minor league management structure is starting to wane.

I'm not as concerned about Romanski being used as a positional player. He was used as both a weekend starter and as a CF throughout his college career, and tossed 96.2 innings this spring for the Toreros. Since he signed so quickly, there is plenty of time for him to get an additional 20-30 innings this summer, as I'm guessing the Brewers don't want him to get much more than that after his heavy spring workload.

I actually like the idea of having him being developed both ways, because he is an accomplished hitter and fine overall athlete. I think we had this discussion on the draft forum, wondering if there were any players in recent years that were used in this capacity. While I'm not happy with Helena's injury situation, I think it's pretty cool to see Romanski get some ABs.

Thanks for the response Colby, and I hope that your indication of a true plan for Romanski is actually the case. Any insight as to why Charlie Greene was managing the other day?

Edit: To answer my own question - culled from the Helena game story:

Manager Rene Gonzales attended a family wedding and missed his second straight game.

Oh well. During my spring training visit, I learned that Charlie Greene is VERY well regarded by everyone he comes in contact with, so I was hoping this might have been a real bump up for him.

Perhaps if you think of him as our very own Micah Owings you might be a bit more optimistic about his current role?

Or Brooks Kieschnick, if you will. Slightly less optimistic maybe.
