Link Report for Sun. 6/29 -- Jeffress Goes Today

The Brewers really need to just move Gamel off 3rd. They've never been able to coach a guy into being worthwhile defensively, and its not happening with Gamel. Gamel needs to start getting reps at 1B so he's ready to be an asset defensively there when he gets promoted to the bigs. Taylor Green is an underrated prospect, with a patient approach that would be a great addition to the 2 hole in the Brewers lineup. Promote him to AA to fill the 3B hole. If you curve Green numbers for the league he's in, you get an outstanding hitter.

If you were going to move Gamel, wouldn't you rather him learn to play right field, where he'd maximize his value? If you do that, you can then move LaPorta to first, and you still have one OF and one 1B, only you've better matched the prospect's defensive capabilities to his position.

I'd like to have the best 1B play 1B. I think its an underrated defensive position. I'd guess Gamel would have softer hands and more agility at 1B, so I'd want him there. Even though there listed heighth suggests differently, pretty much everyone who's seen them would say Gamel also offers a bigger target at 1B. Being an infielder by trade, I think Gamel could learn 1B faster than RF.

X, After seeing them next to each other during a B game in spring training, I think that LaPorta was the bigger guy.

Well, Gamel is not 3 inches taller...sorry, but no way in heck. Gamel is listed at 6 foot even and LaPorta at 6'1. And though :LaPorta's barrel chest may have given a false impression of height, I can assure you that Gamel is not 3 inches taller. They were batting 3 and 4 in the "B" game and were standing right next to each other swinging their leaded bats.

Maybe LaPorta was standing on an equatorial bulge.

I've seen them next to each other once - and while 3 inches may be a stretch, Gamel was noticably taller.

I've also heard from well connected individuals that Gamel is at least 6'3". So that gives him at least 2".

Not sure about LaPorta, but my Dad is 6'2", and Mat (Gamel) is every bit as tall as him, if not taller - when they are standing next to each other, regardless of what MiLB/MLB has him listed as.
