Yovani Gallardo's next sim game is going to be Saturday prior to the game, and will be 50-65 pitches. If that goes well the schedule is to go the following Wednesday and Sunday the 14th. If these go well that September 19th date is more then possible. I wonder if a compromise will be reached that Gallardo will be allowed to come back IF he goes to the bullpen even though I know he is itching to get back into the rotation.

Do you know if this will be done immediately before the game, during warmups/batting practice? I'm going to the game, so I'm wondering if fans can watch part of his sim game after the gates open.

If the Brewers are having Yo pitch his simulated games on starters rest doesn't it appear that they are getting him ready as a starter? Or is this a common practice when any pitcher returns from injury?

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Yo pitch before the year is out. But I'd be surprised if the team depended on him to do anything of consequence.

Following an injury, it's a nice uplift for a player to be able get back on the field before the season is out. I'd guess that this is all the Brewers would like to accomplish.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Yost was ripped on pretty hard for allowing Yo to pitch when he didn't know he had a torn tendon. Now we know he had a torn tendon, and we want him back on the mound? He'd have to pass a lot of test before I would even think about putting him on the mound in a game, that or a really desperate situation. Maybe an inning or 2 in a blow out just so he can have the mental boost of making it back, but I would not want him fielding the position at all.

If Ben and CC are both gone next season, Yo is too critical to risk getting hurt by rushing him back.

Yovani is reporting to Arizona on September 15th

Still "unlikely" that he will return

Though he did not know his workout schedule beyond Saturday, Gallardo expected to continue similar workouts, before departing for Arizona, where his rehab will continue. He still remains unlikely to return to the team before season's end.

It appears today's sim game went very well.

Edit: Should probably check author before attributing a line to somebody http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

So today is the day he is supposed to report to Arizona. What does that mean exactly? What will he be doing there, and who will he be doing it against? A Sim game against a bunch of minor leaguers or something like that? Is that happening today? Tomorrow? Are they still hoping to bring him back? I know I am probably not going to get them, but I want answers.

Let's just say he can come back. Is he a better option than Parra at this point? If he could be avaialable to start Saturday, and given Suppan's short start yesterday, anyone want to bring him back on 3 days rest, and Go Sabathia, Sheets, Suppan, Bush, Gallardo?

Assuming he's capable. and there would be no further inyury concerns, is there anything really to be lost by doing so at this point?

I think Jim said he would be throwing in an Instructional League game or 2.
Here is what Jim Powell has been reporting:

Gallardo will throw in an instructional league game today and, if it goes very well, he could be put on the active roster later this week when he has recovered. He will only be used in the pen, Jim does not think he is even trying to hit. They are just getting him ready to pitch and field.

Boy, I'm not sure what that really gives you. With 37 guys in that bullpen already, what is a guy who has always been a starter really going to have to offer? Could they potentially get him out there a few times and have him waiting in the wings for game 163? Would that be a better option then Bush or Suppan or whomever would end up having to start that game?

It's huge if Gallardo can prove valuable as a right-handed set-up man in the pen.

If Yo had been two weeks ahead of where he is now, do you think he may have faced Burrell Sunday afternoon after the fateful intentional pass to Howard?

Again, he won't be starting under any circumstances, regular season or postseason.

Obviously there is still a shortage of right handers in the pen, what other reason could there be for having your lefty specialist pitch to a right hander in a critical situation?

I don't know. My point is, has he ever, even once in his young baseball career ever entered a game mid-inning with runners on base? Has he ever even started an inning late in a game he didn't start? What eveidence is there to suggest he can be effective in that role? Is late-September the time to try to find out? I know this, we might as well fire up the Designated Sveum thread the moment he joins the active roster, because teh first time a situation like that arises, whether he does or does not bring him in, many will be complaining.

Why speculate, when the answers are right at your fingertips? He was used as a reliever 3 times in 2007: http://sports.espn.go.com...pe=pitching&year=2007
