Tribe Sign Graffy to Minors Deal

Graffanino, who just turned 35, is coming off two knee surgeries and is not ready for game activity. Initially, he'll be working out with the Bisons, with his expected return-to-play date not yet announced.

Graffanino has played 12 seasons with six teams -- the Braves, Rays, White Sox, Royals, Red Sox and Brewers. He owns a career Major League average of .267, with 58 homers and 301 RBIs. He played in 86 games for the Brewers last year, batting .238 with nine homers and 30 RBIs, before sustaining a season-ending injury to his right knee in August. He had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in August and surgery to repair a torn ACL in December.

I was just thinking the other day that Graffanino would be a prefect fit for Cleveland. Check out Asdrubal Cabrera's numbers. Sure, Jamey Carroll's been better of late, but does anybody expect that to continue? If Graffanino can't make it there, he's probably done. I'll be cheering for him.

good point about the major/minor league forum, but I'm pretty sure this thread is here because many people would like to know about Graff, but not as many people as you'd think visit/read the minor league forum.

Graffy's more of a rehabbing major leaguer that needs some time in the minors rather than the washed out now minor leaguer trying to get back to the show. Same reason Weeks playing some games in the minors might make the major league forum.

Best of luck to Graffy. Not a great player, but has made a nice career doing something fun.

And a very small part of me misses all the Counselnino references.

As a platoon nickname, Counselnino will be difficult to top.

Good luck to Tony, and may you not save your greatest post-Brewers play for a future game against the Brewers.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I was always partial to Menchkins. I like Graffy and wish him well. Would rather he was on the Brewers than Counsell, but I don't want both, so will tolerate things the way they are. In fairness Counsell is having a quality Counsell type year....
