My dream "retooling" of the Brewers

While i'm excited about the Brewers playing better lately, i think we are a year away. in the midst of the Fielder controversey, Yo Injury, and pending Sheets free agency, these would be my "dream" moves for the Brewers this offseason

1) Trade a package of mid-level prospects to Kansas City for Zach Greinke and Mark G - (maybe Weeks, Cole G, and Carlos V)

2) Trade Prince Fielder (and Jeremy Jeffress if neccesary) for Tim Lincecum

3) Resign Ben Sheets (whatever it takes)... if he wants 6 years $120 million, give it to him. damn the risk, we're either going for it or we're not

4) Find something to trade to Baltimore for Brian Roberts

1) Sheets 2) Lincecum 3) Greinke 4) Parra 5) Soup

2B- Roberts, SS-Hardy, LF-Braun, 1B- LaPorta, RF- Hart, 3B Branyan/Gamel, CF Cameron, C- Kendall, P

Bench: Branyan/Gamel, Dillon, Backup C, Kapler, Utlity IF

Wow.... i completely forgot about Yo

Yah, I'm gonna guess that Gallardo figures prominently into the Brewers' plans as long as he doesn't decide to do aerial calisthenics over baserunners again in the future. He could well be our best pitcher next year.

Greinke isn't going anywhere for mid-level prospects, unless you consider Jeffress and LaPorta to be mid-level prospects.

I like most of your thoughts, however, I would tweak it a bit. Money is always going to be an issue with this team to a degree. Now is a time to dump a pitcher like soup while he has a sub 4 ERA. Maybe the Yankees would bite. It doesn't matter the return. But freeing up 10-12 M would allow the signing of sheets if he wants to stay, and both should occur simultaneously. Then they can trade for a sabbathia, which will be costly. (Gamel/laporta + another). Also, I agree Fielder should be traded, but in the off season only.

2009 Rotation; Sheets, Sabathia, Gallardo, Parra, Jeffries
Trade; Hardy, Weeks, McClung, Bush, for young, good, inexpensive bullpen arms (i.e. Baltimore)
Trade; Fielder/Hall for someone to replace where you thought Gamel or Laporta would play if you needed to trade one of them for Sabathia.
Position Players; 2B Roberts, SS Escobar, CF Braun, 1B Overbay type ( LH contact hitter, high OBP), RF Hart, LF Laporta/Free Agent, 3B Gamel or Hall/Branyon platoon, C Kendall

Strong starting pitching, more consistant OBP and contact, plus lefty/righty balance. With the depth of hitting in our system, spend the money now on pitching.

A little convoluted.....probably. I put too much thought into this.

Just some quick thoughts;

1. Sheets to Boston for Ellsbury, P Michael Bowden, and another player.

2. Weeks to the Orioles for Roberts

3. Fielder to the Angels for Santana and 3b Matt Brown

1. Boston (and New York) really seems like they intend to rebuild from within.

2. Doesn't look like it's going to happen and seems to be pure speculation

3. Ervin Santana is nowhere near enough for Prince no to mention we have Gamel pencilled in at 3B (for now) and Green below him. I am not sure I would deal Prince for 2 or 3 Santana's.

Not sure how you think Santana isn't enough for Fielder. Fielder would be unlikely to get him, the Brwers would ahev to add assuming Santana doesn't fall apart going forward. Fielder just isn't going to bring an established top of the line starter
