This move confirms that Tavarez was viewed as the worst reliever in the pen. That begs the question... why was he being used in close games when other players were available (not talking about the last extra inning game).

Other than the 12 inning game against the Twins he pitched mostly in blowouts. The only game that I recall that was close was the Houston game that McClung started. I thought the rest of his appearances were pretty much blowouts. I could be wrong on that, though.

Yes. One less undependable reliever is always a good thing. Torres, Shouse, CV, and Riske. Still not a stellar group, but it got a bit better. I'm still crossing my fingers that Gagne can come back and become dependable.

The Brewers listened to me and the ushers I was talking to last night! We all wanted Tavarez gone first. Yes!

(and welcome back to Riske)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

That June 10th Houston game and the May 27th game against Atlanta.

The right move. Whew, I was worried that DiFelice or Dillard would get sent down because they weren't "veteran-ey" enough.

I worried about the same thing. I mean, the built-in excuses were there -- DiFelice and Dillard have options, Tavarez doesn't, you can never have enough pitching depth, etc, etc. Ultimately though, you have to be able to get hitters out. We're in a playoff chase, our bullpen is unreliable as it is, we need the best group of arms we can piece together, regardless of options at this point. To me, DiFelice and Dillard bring much more to the table than Julian, so they should stay. If Tavarez was even just equal to those two, I would have been okay with sending one down. But from what I've seen, he's clearly worse.
