"Jeter couldn't have done anymore"

How about not turn his back to 1B coming from short so he doesn't do a jump turn to throw?

EDIT:Jeter misses a catch and they ignore the fact it would have been the last out which would have saved the Yankees 2 runs so far.

Hat's off to Kenny Rogers. With all his off-field headlines I have to admit I don't like the guy, but he pitched the game of his life to night.

Playoff baseball in the upper midwest, looks like fun...

Not only do I hate how stupid Yankees fans are for not appreciating A-Rod, I hate how the media has run with it. Now just about everyone I know who watches SportsCenter or reads Sports Illustrated has it ingrained in their mind that A-Rod is horrible, he chokes under pressure, yadda yadda yadda. Now, when I try to point out the fact that all they do is show you stats from A-Rod's last 11 postseason games and ignore the previous 22 (in which he was on fire), all people do is repeat "he can't handle the pressure." Man, is it really that easy to be brainwashed by the media?

All that being said, go Tigers, but go A-Rod at the same time. Or maybe A-Rod should suck it up so they trade him to the Brewers. But even if that happened, I wouldn't be surprised if half the people I know complain about how the Brewers are still only going after unclutchy players who won't do anything come crunch time.

The worst was when Granderson hit his home run and the announcer (I think it was Jon Miller?) said something to the effect of, "Most fans across the country are probably just wondering who this guy is!" How annoying, and I'm not even a Tigers fan.

I can't wait until the Brewers make the playoffs and the announcers are marveling at the unknown that is Corey Hart or "Richie" Weeks.

Yeah I have a feeling this is what's going to happen.

Corey Hart- "I didn't know the 80's heartthrob singer played baseball."

Richie Weeks- self explanatory

Cecil Fielder- self explanatory

J.J. Hardy- "I wonder what J.J. stands for?"

Ryan Brown- self explanatory...yes I know it's Braun but the announcers would say "Brown"

That's the most sickening thing announcers do in baseball. They think they know more than fans do about the game, when actually it is the announcers that know nothing.

Like I said earlier in the thread - Granderson is basically a poor man's Grady Sizemore. He's going to be a star.

The worst? When Detorit stood up when Rodgers got two strikes on Yankee hitters. Jon Miller said "Detroit fans are standing in anticipation of the srtikeout ala Yankee Stadium."

"ala Yankee Stadium?" Suddenly Yankee fans invented standing before a strikeout.

Yeah, I said the same thing to people who I was watching the game with. It was like "what the hell is he talking about?" They could probably shown archival footage from the '84 series with Tigers fans standing in anticipation of a Milt Wilcox or Dan Petry K, or something.

I used to kind of like Miller before this game. He was just nasty.

I think that if you're a fan of baseball you know who Granderson is. Geez

Edit- And hadn't the Yankees completely owned Rodgers before this game? I know A-Rod was batting like a ridiculous .500 vs Rodgers.

Yeah - he had a 9.00 ERA in his last 11 starts against them, and pretty much every hitter had torched him. That's what was so remarkable to me about the performance - this is a pitcher that typically the Yankees would demolish (soft-tosser, nibbler, poor fastball, etc.), and he just shut them down. I normally don't get all sentimental and stuff, but that was a vintage playoff thing - the intensity he had was unreal.

A-Rod's hitting 8th today.

To me, that's Torre selling him out. Now the media idiots will make it out like Torre had his hand forced by A-Rod's "unclutchiness", had to move him to 8th, and disrupted the "chemistry" of the lineup. He wants to keep his job. Of course, this will lend itself to people who mock A-Rod, who will call him "8-Rod". This doesn't help the situation, at all.

But if you don't start Jason Giambi in the playoffs (he isn't today), you should lose your job.

Doesn't this just say it all? Baseball needs a cap, the Yankees can have Giambi sit out a game and they still have the best lineup in the majors.

Damon

Matsui

Sheffield

Rodriguez

Jeter

Abreu

Giambi

Cano

Posada

Assuming they pick up Sheffield's option (doubtful but possible) they have $190,784,175 commited to 18 players next year. I thought sports was all about an even playing field but then I look at the Yankees spending money on whoever they want.

Oh yeah, I also realize that the Yankees will obviously win today, and Melky Cabrera will do something that makes him a clutch playoff God on the level of a Chad Curtis, and make Torre look like a genius.

Still, just because you make a wing and a prayer move like this, and it works out, doesn't make it the right move.

Wow, I just saw the line on ESPN2 that said Giambi isn't playing. That's just dumb.

Now there's a headline on Yahoo sports about "A-Rod's bubble bursting." They single out A-Rod for everything that goes wrong.

Damon/Abreu/Giambi and Bernie Williams went a combined 0-14, but let's blame it all on A-Rod.
