2006 League Championship Series Thread

Met punks??

I understand that New York and New Yorkers are hated by many. But I would assume that most of that is because of the Yankee empire and the attention they get in the National media.

But if you spend even 5 minutes in NY, you'll come to learn that nothing will burn Yankee fans more than seeing the Mets in the World Series.

The Mets are the team of Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Long Island. It is the working man's team, with none of the ownership hijinx that you get with Steinbrenner and the 26 Championships.

The radio and tv broadcasters are very good, with none of the attitude of John Sterling and the YES group.

Hate them all you want, but I have really grown to like this Mets team.

I have spent more than 5 minutes in New York.

It's not so much that I hate New York and their teams - which I do to some extent - it's when I see that the media has chosen one team (in this case the Mets) to win it all.

None of the owerniship hijinx?

Look the Mets spend a lot of money too. They spent the 5th most this year in baseball.

But it's not about them paying money to have a good team. I like watching Reyes, Wright, Maine, etc play, my point was that any time a team such as the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, etc play in the LCS it's clear what team is supposed to win. The afore mentioned.

I wasn't a fan of the Yankees in their run for the WS, wasn't a fan of the Red Sox in theirs - as a matter of fact hated them more afterwards and their fans - and wasn't a fan of the Mets now. Though like I said I like Reyes, Wright, Maine, etc.

Edit - Should have responded to a specific post, that or responded sooner.

Either way it's pointless now as the Cardinals win.

The goal for the Brewers needs to be a playoff team....if the division can be won by winning 88 games...build a team to do that....if it takes 100...you may have to get another stud pitcher....but once in the playoffs...anything can happen

Fair enough, Yfinn--

But it's odd in considering what the National media "wants". . .It seemed from here that Buck & McCarver were in the Cardinals camp. If you watch the game back in slow motion, I think you'll see Joe Buck run out onto the field to smooch Pujols more than once.

It's a matter of perspective I guess, and hearing what you hear through your own personal filters. I didn't get any indication that the Mets were media darlings at all.

Congrats to you as your guys won.

Not really my guys, just didn't want the Mets to win. I would have cheered for the Dodgers, or Padres.

I'd rather the NL central be represented. Blast me for that if you want but that's my opinion.

Edit: Still haven't quite figured out how to quote, I guess I'll get that sooner or later.

Jim - not trying to argue on end with you here, just from what I saw of this series I had the impression that the Mets were THE team to beat, or THE team chosen to win whichever.

Anyone else realize that the curveball that ended the game was apparently a mistake? It looked like Molina was clearly calling for him to bounce one (thumping the ground over and over again with his glove), but Wainwright either missed or just plain ignored his catcher. It worked for him, I guess.

when Molina was pounding the ground, it could have just been a ploy for Beltran. You know, a "let's smack the ground a few times so he'll think it's going in the dirt and he'll be taking all the way. Then we'll throw the curveball to make him think it's going to dive into the dirt. Ha-ha, though, the joke will be on him!" kind of thing.
