If we had a truly established third baseman on he team and Braun did this, I'd be optimistic about the position down the road. However, we don't have an established third baseman, so I was on my knees hoping that Braun would give the team a reason to play him at third. He's on his way. Just keep giving the coaching staff reasons Ryan, keep doing it. If he does, I say to hell with arbitration.

Braun is on pace to bat 1.000 and hit around 55-60 homers in Spring Training games this year. Not to mention a crazy good SLG%. I wouldnt be surprised if he kept this up.

No, but in all seriousness, this is awesome, and if he can produce half as good as he has today for the rest of spring he will be on the team.

Edit: part of that was supposed to be blue.

If he does half as good, he'll hit .500, with one HR and 4 RBIs every game. That may be good enough to hit sixth for the Brewers.

EDIT: Sorrt I was incorrect. I thought he was 4-4 with 8 RBIs. He was only 4-5 with 7 RBIs. What a bum.

Alright, so I was at the game today and stayed until the end of the first 5 run inning. (Bottom of 5, I had to get to work and I am kind of bummed that I did not get to see the other 5 run inning).

Vargas got rocked in the first 2 innings. From where I was at, it looked like he was just throwing fastballs because the A's were all over the pitches. Also, the first 2 innings had many errors that should be worked out by the end of this spring.

Like I stated before, Bill Hall looked completly lost in center. The first shot was to his right and he turned left, then back to his right and was never in a position to make the play. He also gave up on it once it went past him and Mench had to throw it in from center field. The next play was a short shot to dead center and it seemed that he did not get a read on the ball. He stepped back and then kind of jogged in. When he realized that it was short he sprinted in and could not make the play.

Ryan Braun had a great game but lets not get to excited yet. It was his first spring game and he needs a lot of work on the defensive side before he makes the club. As for the first homerun, I would say that it landed somewhere in the 400 to 425 ft range. It was blasted to left center half way up the berm. (I was lucky to get a shot of this homer and it shows the ball coming in and he is in mid swing. Really cool.)

I have to give a lot of credit to the bullpen today. They came in after the disaster which was the first two innings and shut them down.

Overall, a decent showing for the first game of the year. A lot of work still needs to be done in the field as to errors and positioning of the outfielders. This should work itself out by the end of spring. I will try and get some pictures up when I get home from work tonight aroung 10:30 pm.

Does anyone know if there is a box score available for this game? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

Go to Brewers.com or any mlb site and click on the scoreboard link. They were late in getting it out there, but it's there

I am probably a bit too excited, but I am glad to see a clean inning by Turnbow to start spring training. It is pretty nice Ryan Braun decided to show up, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

any idea what was going on with my boy Hendrickson? I was there a couple of years ago at his spring debut when he was the front-runner for the 5th spot and got rocked. Just nibbling, or what?
