What would you trade for Erik Bedard?

I'd be awfully tempted to trade LaPorta+ for Bedard.

I wonder if Seattle could get a package centered around Adam Jones, George Sherrill and Chris Tillman for Bedard. That'd be a nice haul.

this is awesome.

I would be hesitant about giving up too much for Bedard. He sounds like he's selfish and someone you couldn't count on. Still would be an improvement, but the team wouldn't be able to count on him being there for them. Saw the following article from the Baltimore Sun on Sunday.

"The Seattle media isn't enamored with his unfriendly persona. McLaren didn't like his supposed ace's inability to pitch deep into games. And Bavasi, the man who sold the farm because he thought Bedard was the missing piece to Seattle's elusive title, seemingly didn't like the whole package.

This is what Bavasi said after his firing when asked why Bedard couldn't go beyond 100 pitches in half of his first 12 starts:

"You got to ask him," Bavasi said. "Good luck. And he's going to have some stupid answer, some dumb answer."

"...In two consecutive starts, Bedard acknowledged he was tired and exited after throwing 99 pitches. If Bavasi had done his homework, he would have known that Bedard is plenty talented but can be uncooperative and won't push his body for the sake of the team if he thinks he's spent.

Friday night, he left a start after the third inning because of back spasms.

The guy will fight as hard as he can when he's on the mound, but when he decides he's done, he's done."

I'm still keen to get Bedard and it sounds like we can get him for less. Hopefully a package of Bill Hall, Brad Nelson, Zack Jackson and Derek Miller could do it.

Yeah if we could get him cheap I would be all for it. Even if he only goes 5 or 6 innings and then takes himself out, it's an upgrade over the 5-6 innings that Bush usually gives us (not a knock on Bush but it is true.)

Try LaPorta, Gwynn and Nelson at least.

Yeah, that's probably much more in line with what we'd have to give. And sign me up for that in a heartbeat. I'd even throw them Luis Pena if they needed an arm in return.

I heard Bedard used to work in a puppy killing factor.

(I mean, can't we spread a few more rumors about Bedard to drive down his value.)

Seriously though, I wonder if some of these comments are driving down his value. Bavasi had some pretty unpleasant things to say.

I can see that point but in reality the Mariners don't have to trade him. And after what they gave up for him I don't think they would trade him for cheap.

Thing is the Mariner's really do have to trade him since he is the only tradeable piece they have. Beltre may gain some interest but they'd be selling low given his hitting into a lot of bad luck this year (BABIP of.246 when his LD% supports around a BABIP of .320). Ibanez probably should be traded but he can't play the OF anymore meaning you have a weak 1B/DH or a bench bat brining little back. That leaves Bedard and with the old regieme plus a willing media trying to make Bedard the fall guy better to move him quickly.
