Sidney Ponson likes to fight

According to CNNSI's Truth and Rumors section, there was a variety of reasons why the Texas Rangers decided to let Sidney Ponson go because of major alcohol and attitude issues. According to the article CNNSI posted, it appeared Ponson decided to get liquored up the night before his start at Tampa.

I never knew Ponson was this bad. It speaks dividends when your own teammates attempt to break up a fight between a teammate and a bartender in a hotel bar the day before a start.

He was released following "embarassing incidents to the organization" when it scrawled across ESPN's bottomline a week or two ago, but this article gets into specifics about what really led them to releasing him.

It's really a shame. I thought this time he'd turn himself around, maybe have re-birth like Dennis Martinez after he got off the sauce. (Of course Ponson isn't that good!)

 

Now I'm starting to think this isn't going to end pretty.

I think it's obvious MLB teams do not care if their players get drunk before games, only if they are ineffective and/or start embarrassing the team. Sidney should have stayed in his room and utilized the mini-bar.

Pardon my vague question, but who was the very recent player that admitted in a book/newspaper they were drunk during a game? It wasn't Cameron was it? Again I apologize (especially throwing Cam's name out there if I'm wrong), but I remember reading a thread in the past year or so about a player claiming to be drinking before a game, etc.
