Brewer Classic: 1975 All-Star Game

hawing

I just didn't want to see this left out (though you could argue that it's more of a baseball classic than specifically a Brewers Classic).

The first half hour featured player introductions (by Bob Betts - awfully nice to hear his voice again), Glen Campbell singing the national anthem and graphics that I'm sure were state of the art 31 1/2 years ago. Oh, and tons and tons of yellow from all those all-star A's. And Jerry Reuss' hair. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Also, all the fans are dressed up (suits/ties and dresses). I know that was de reguieur back in the day - my mother has told me about how everyone dressed to the hilt for the '55 ASG - but by the 1970s I would have expected the dress code for outdoor activities to have relaxed a bit.

Henry Kissinger is in the Stadium. I haven't seen Bud. This is an interesting peek back in time.

Edit: Irritatingly, I didn't notice it was set to run 3 hours until the timer on the DVR was already underway. Better get another ready...

It did not. However, the MVP award was presented to two players (Bill Madlock and Jon Matlack).

Bowie Kuhn was saying that this had never happened before, and I turned to the S.O. and commented on how all-star games in Milwaukee apparently keep breaking new ground.

Almost every player in the starting lineup was a member of the Reds, dodgers, Yankees, or A's.

This was a regular occurrance. Back in the 70's Dodger fans were known to be ballot box stuffers. Bowie Kuhn gave the voting back to the fans just a few years earlier.

I was at that game when I was 12 years old. What a thrill to see such great players all in one stadium. I just remember what a pain it was getting to the ballpark. Traffic was backed up on 94 for quite a ways. It was good to see it on TV , since I missed it on there the first time.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
