How happy are you that Big Brown didn't win the Belmont?

I guess I could have cared less. But it was funny that he finished so bad after his trainer and just about everyone else thought it was a for gone conclusion that he would win. I was starting to wonder why they even wanted to run the race. No one gave the field a chance. My buddy lost $200 on the race.

Almost 6 million was bet on Big Brown at Belmont track. Across the country, it was probably about 10 times that. Vegas alone probably had 40 mil on Big Brown bets.

It was too bad that he showed the way he did. I am glad that owner lost though.

why would you be happy about that? we haven't had a Triple Crown winner in so long, it would be a needed boost to a great sport.
Big Brown winning the Triple Crown would have been like . . . I dunno . . .Barry Bonds breaking Aaron's all-time home run record. (Although the steroid issue is vastly different in horse racing, the fact remains that the horse ran like an absolute mutt today after being taken off them.)

And BB's trainer said winning the Triple Crown was a "foregone conclusion" after he took the Derby and the Preakness. That was just sheer idiocy. (Actually, actually a lot of what Dutrow has said has been sheer idiocy.)

I am all for having another horse win the TC -- just not this one.

I felt bad that he finished last and could potentially be injured, but kind of like the Patriots losing to the Giants, I thought it was fairly epic in the fashion he lost after everyone essentially handed him the triple crown.

I don't follow horse racing, but it seems like whenever I bother to tune into a race, the horses that they put up as "sure winners" fail to win, or some horse no one was even talking about ends up winning the thing.

I don't gamble much, and am not a horse lover, so I don't personally understand how people can get into horse racing. Oh well.

Owner was a majorly arrogant jerk, punters who bet a lot on him to win today were clueless (to be kind), I cannot stand the Belmont atmosphere, the fields were weak, it's hard to celebrate a Crown when the Derby's Place horse was euthanized on the track, to say the least...

Yeah, I'm glad he lost

Am I happy??? A buddy called me before the race and wanted to bet on Big Brown. Since I had to make a bet for him, I watched the pre-show coverage and caught the fact that Desormeaux was told to take the early lead and he was a Nick Zito horse. I put a wager on him at 35-1. Its the very first bet I have ever put on a horse. I think I am going to roll some of this into the Brewers taking the Central this year at 8-1.

Oh, that is sweet! Nick Zito is the man.

In a way I am glad because a longshot won and the trainer and owner were bot arrogant jerks. But for some odd reason I feel bad for the jockey and the horse.

i didn't get to see the race, but i'd thought the reason Big Brown finished last was the horse was/became injured. i also don't buy it that the horse was suddenly taken off steroids, as those animals are tested for those pretty stringently.

but the fact that so much money was lost by picking BB to win the race doesn't bother me in the slightest. that's the nature of gambling, plus it doesn't make a lot of sense to pick such a huge favourite in the first place.

some greater attention with a TC win would have been nice for the sport. it's amazing that two of the three biggest sports in America just 50 years ago, boxing and horse racing, are slowly fading away.

I might be one of the Happiest People on Earth, (Other than those who bet the six horse and got 79 dollars for every two). The Race and Sports Book I work for made a TON! I'll be making a bank depostit for them on Wednesday.

I like when the customer LOSES!!!!!!

the thing that struck me as "interesting" was how fast the jockey dismounted from Big Brown and took everything off him (saddle, silks, etc.) and patted him as if to say, "Good job. Now go back to the farm, you hack!" and then abruptly turned and walked away. You usually don't see them dismount and take the stuff off the horse so fast, it was kind of comical to me.
