Chapman and Caufield are 5 for 35 and 5 for 37 respectively in their last ten games... yikes.

Periard has puts up 6IP, 3H, 0ER, 4SO, 0BB line... 2 solid starts in a row, he may be turning the corner!

Cain 2 for 5 with a 2B and a HR.

Huntsville's game 1 a disaster at the end, with 3 unearned runs.

Is it wrong that I look at the Nashville boxscore each game this series hoping to see Pie with a HBP? I don't know why I dislike him so much... he's on the same level for me as Bonds, except he's not any good, it's so irrational.

Final: West Virginia 3, Lexington (Astros) 2

West Virginia Site Game Summary:

POWER SNAP HOME LOSING SKID

Curt Rindal delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning of Monday night's game at Appalachian Power Park to extend West Virginia's winning streak to five games and snapped their seven-game home losing streak as they defeated the Lexington Legends 3-2.

It was a scoreless contest until Zelous Wheeler began the fifth inning with his fifth homer of the season. Eric Fryer doubled the lead during the very next at-bat, as he followed Wheeler with his fourth bomb of the season. West Virginia was one out away from securing their first shutout of the season until Steve Brown hit a two-run homer to left and tied the game at 2-2.

Steffan Wilson began the ninth inning with a double down the right field line. Caleb Gindl was intentionally walked before Matt Cline pinch-ran for Wilson at second base. Gindl and Cline both advanced on a wild pitch which caused the Legends to intentionally walk Wheeler and loaded the bases with nobody out. Fryer struck out before Rindal hit a ground ball on the left side of the infield which was picked up by the pitcher Luis Pardo along the line, allowing Cline to score.

Rob Bryson (2-2) allowed two runs on three hits over two innings to get the victory. Pardo (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing just a run on five hits with six strikeouts over three and a third. Chris Cody was sensational for the Power. He tossed seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball and struck out six batters.

The Power improved to 24-32 with the win and the Legends fell to 18-38 with the loss. Four of West Virginia's victories during the five-game streak have been by one run. It was West Virginia's first win at Appalachian Power Park since May 10th. The victory was also West Virginia's first in their final at-bat this season. Rindal and Wilson paced the Power with two hits each.

The Power will finish the two game series against Lexington Tuesday morning. Right hander R.J. Seidel (2-3, 4.60) will get the start for the Power and the Legends will counter with right hander Leandro Cespedes (2-4, 5.44). The first pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM (9:35 Central).

West Virginia Box Score

Zelous Wheeler played shortstop tonight, reached base three times, stole a base -- his 6th steal on the season (in 14 attempts, yikes); Chris Cody could be bumped to AA if there was a spot open -- another low-A start would be silly at this point; Rob Bryson put on two more runners after blowing the save, but got out of the inning after that for the vulture win; Power hit into three DP's; we'll find the audio of the "back-to-back-jack-jackety-jacks" (for $5,000 -- that's unbelievable) after the Stars game, which we're listening to now -- Wheeler and Fryer are going to get some national pub once that story is out...

Alcides Escobar is 34-for-his-last-68 (.500) over 18 games, as Brett Pollock just told us -- wow!

Chris Bosio the Reds' AA pitching coach -- gee, what special thing did he once do in the big leagues?

Escobar is absolutely sick right now. 34 for 68 just isn't fair.

Final: Brevard County 4, St. Lucie (Mets) 2

Brevard County Box Score

This Mets' high-A squad is now 12-45; as noted above, what a beautiful, beautiful line for Alex Periard -- thanks for blueprinting my Power 50 comment with that line and nine ground ball outs, Alex; Periard's one run allowed was unearned (his own error); Casey Baron with the save in the committee-like Omar Aguilar-less bullpen; Lorenzo Cain with two more extra-base hits -- he now has 22 in 220 AB's after having only 26 in 482 AB's in the same league last year, how about that; is 27-for-35 an acceptable SB rate for Darren Ford -- I'm not sure; long-ago Milwaukee Brewer Jose Valentin DH'ing on a rehab assignment; game played before a cozy friends-and-family "crowd" of 333...
