How good are our prospects?

jjfanec
I was thinking about it today and began to wonder where would our minor leaguers rank if there was a top 100 list put out right now. I was not really thinking of exact numbers but how many of our guys would be in the top 100. LaPorta and Gamel are locks. Then you have Escobar and Jeffress who I think would crack the list. You also have a guy like Salome who would seem deserving. LaPorta was 23 at the start of the year with guys like Joba, Ellsbury, Longoria, and Buchholz on the list, so he should jump up. Gamel's name was brought up in a BA chat as someone who could go from not being in the top 100 to being ranked between 20-40. Jeffress made BP's list at 76. It is fun talking about the power 50 rankings so I was just wondering where they would fall overall.

I know there's not a pitcher in the system anywhere close to the top 100, and that's the real story.

The real story is that if Braddock and Jeffress produce this year they'll be in BA's top 100. The system is not devoid of very good pitching prospects, they are just in A ball for the most part. In fact, there are more quality arms in the system now than I can remember at any time in the past. I guess I can see where someone would look at the AAA and AA rotations and see just a bunch of guys, but there's quality pitchers in the system.

edit. I should add that I have no doubt that Laporta, Gamel, and Salome are top 100 prospects, even if BA doesn't give them all their due. I'd be happy with 2 or 3 on the list at any one time, but going into next year the system could legitimately have 5 players on that list.

Jeffress will make the top 100 barring meltdown, Braddock has a chance to, but Donovan Hand? Hand is a fun guy to cheer for, but he would have to throw four perfect games and have an ERA under 1 to make top 100 lists.

[EDIT] Nevermind, you figured the same and edited him out http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Yea I was thinking results wise he had a shot, but for this list it really comes down to projectability, and he doesn't throw 96 and his K totals are not high enough.

I think LaPorta, Gamel and Jeffress are locks to be top 100. LaPorta and Gamel have the results and Jeffress has the upside that those lists love. Salome should be in in my mind. For a catcher is numbers are phenomenal. Escobar is a guy I find interesting. His gloves is terrific and now his bat is catching up and he is showing power. not sure where that would get him. However, it is great to have a system that has 3 guys who should be in safely if they keep producing and a couple others who could make it as well. Add in 6 high picks and this draft and our system will be looking pretty good again.

Where was Gallardo in these rankings?

How about Hendrickson?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Yo peaked at 16 from what I can tell and Hendrickson peaked at 90. There are some interesting other guys who made that list for the Brewers. Nick Neugebauer hit 17. Here is a link of the rankings since 1992.

Heres a thread at Minor League Baseball by John Sickles on who will ranked the top 10 prospects in baseabll next year. Every fans list has LaPorta, and some have Gamel.
