Esteban Loaiza

Was DFA by LA Dodgers.

With Melvin about to sign Tavarez because he's a veteran arm, does Loaiza interest him as well (or to some degree)?

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

I'm not looking to acquire him, just wondering what people think.

I'm not suggesting it's a bad idea because truthfully I don't know enough about Loaiza and I don't want to take the 2 minutes it'd take to come up with the answers. That said...

While there's something to be said for diligent scouting, the benefits of a change of scenery, and catching lightning in a bottle, whether individually or collectively, at some point the in-season dumpster diving starts to look pretty bad and the overall odds just wouldn't seem to be that great on first blush.

Just a gut reaction laced with a philosophical slant. Maybe Loaiza would be worth it. Hard to be much worse than Dave Bush lately.

hope not...Loaiza is a head case.

We're not going to get a pitcher without warts at this point in time. That much should be clear with the signing of Taverez.

A "head case" generally means that a pitcher has good stuff, but that he struggles with confidence. I'd rather take a chance on a guy like that(which Weaver is) than a guy who doesn't have anything, and you know isn't going to give you anything.

Loaiza isn't a star by anymeans, but he's the type of guy who could benefit greatly from the tutelage of Jason Kendall and who could give us a few good starts. The question is, who would you take out of that starting rotation? Sheets and Suppan are set. Parra's been throwing pretty well the last couple weeks. McClung's a huge, giant question mark, but he's also got huge, giant upside. Maybe Bush goes to the pen and you send Jackson down? I don't know.

I do know that Bartolo Colon would have been absolutely beautiful in Nashville for the last couple months and then for the Brewers. Oh well. I'll bet people called him(and rightfully so) a head case.
