My idea for a deal with the D-Backs

How about...

To Arizona:

Prince Fielder (Much needed left handed power bat)

Cole Gillespie (Future LF replacement for Brynes who is in year 1 of 3 year deal)

Hernan Iribarren (2B prospect to replace Hudson who is FA after this year)

To Milwaukee:

Max Scherzer (Top pitching prospect! MLB ready! D-Backs are 7 starters deep)

Conor Jackson (To replace Fielder at 1B)

Chad Tracy (3B potential and left handed bat! Currently rehabbing in Triple A)

Just a thought... What do you guys think?

We could get way more in return for Prince alone. Connor Jackson really does not have the bat for first base, but cant play anywhere else, Chad Tracy is a nice player esspecially off the bench, but he battled injuries last year, and is nothing special. Scherzer is really the only guy in that whole package that I like, since he is a young pitching prospect, alot of people, however see him pitching out of the pen long term. If we were to move Fielder we would be getting back guys like Joba Chamberlain.

This deal could gain momentum if Conor Jackson was flipped for a closer type. The Brewers have no need for him whatsoever, with the Matts killing it at a 1.000 + OPS at AA. Jackson is finally hitting the way he was projected, with aan 884 OPS, and he's cheap. His value should be a little higher than Overbay's was.

Prince has to be traded for pitching pitching and more pitching. Positionally, factoring in the Matt's this team should be fine (xcept catcher). Escobar replaces Hardy at SS, Hardy possibly replaces Hall at 3b so thats the deal,

What about Blanton, Street & G. Smith?

Gamel looks more like a 3B everyday, which would be great. Even if he isn't, Hardy isn't moving to 3B. He isn't even a good hitting SS. If Gamel plays 3B, you'd have to consider playing Hall at SS.

You could add Tony Pena as a potential closer.

Not a bad idea. Scherzer certainly would seem expendable to some extent. (Although, Randy Johnson is obviously gone after this year. And Doug Davis only has one more year)

You would probably need some other top-flight prospects. But Arizona's system is pretty bare from the Haren trade.

How about Scherzer, Pena, and Tracy for Fielder?

This might be one of those trades that actually improves both teams.

If I was Arizona, I'd want to do this trade at this year's deadline. It would have to make them World Series favorites. Milwaukee probably wouldn't be crazy about doing it this year, as they would be waving the white flag early, but they'd have to consider it.

You'd probably have to replace Tracy with Jackson, as I can't see where he'd fit in with Prince on that team. We could then flip him in the offseason.

WHy does everyone seem to dislike Prince so much recently? The guy nearly won an MVP last year, and now everyone wants to trade the guy, when you still have him under control for 3 more years. Prince will start hitting very soon, Ryan Howard struggled early in the season last year as well. Howard was trying to alter his swing in order to avoid that same shift they use on Prince. Prince will snap out of it very soon.

Piccione, Armchair GMs love deals, God knows I do...and PF is a big chip to throw out on the table...plus if he does not sign (Boras makes it seem like he won't) he is sort of like Carlos Lee was before he got shipped to TEX--though granted, wayyyy earlier than CLee was as PF has yet to hit arby time...furthermore...we have some minor holes that could be taken care of by sending one guy away for 3-4 studs, and in his place new and exciting studs of our own...all of which can play some 1B...lastly...his money coming to him next year could be thrown at Sheets to see if he will stay for a huge offer or maybe he will get traded too...

El Caballo45...THANK YOU!! That is exactly what I am talking about on this site...

I think TGJr to SD for RWolf and a ptbnl is a lot closer to what is going to happen...

Why would AZ deal now for anything? Why mess with the magic that is rolling their way?

'cos prince is not staying in milwaukee, and in 3 years he won't run an field no more.

maybe if the brewers switch back to the AL.

i m definitely into trading prince (as soon as his numbers increase again)

Seeing as how Prince appears 100% set on heading to Free Agency, the Brewers are going to have to trade him at some point. If we wait until his last year, we are trading a rental player and will severly limit any package we could receive for him.

The fact that he is 3 years away from Free Agency is what gives him so much value. Every year that goes by - his value goes down.

Also, I think most believe that Prince is replacable at 1B by either LaPorta or Gamel. Lastly, I don't believe the Brewers will be able to compete next year without more pitching. So trading Prince for top flight pitching makes sense. (Do you think Gallardo, Suppan, Parra, Bush and McClung are going to get use anywhere in 2009?)

Why would AZ deal now for anything?

Arizona trading Scherzer, Pena and Tracy for Fielder would make them the odds on favorite to win the World Series. They have enough pitching without Scherzer. Arizona is also 4-6 in their last 10 games.

I would want Arizona to include Gerardo Parra as well. (LH centerfield prospect) That way we would hopefully have him as a CF for the future and another LH bat in the lineup with Gamel.

I think it goes without saying, and I'd imagine nearly everyone on this site will agree that Prince is going to get white hot and start mashing the ball. I also think that almost everyone would agree that while he's struggled a bit, that's most certainly not the reason the Brewers want to deal Prince. The reasons are;

1-If they re-sign him, it's going to be for huge money. Meaning that we're going to lose other players. Players such as Yo, Hart, Manny, Weeks, and so on. To me it's not so much that they can't re-sign Prince. I know they can. There's no question that they can. It's simply that they shouldn't.

2-The Brewers right now clearly need pitching. It would be fine if Yo hadn't gotten hurt, but he has, and now Sheets is set to be a FA next year. While I believe that the Brewers will keep Sheets at an inflated price, the Brewers could still use another frontline guy to really be a force. They could also use a young closer.

3-The Brewers have maybe 2 of the top 6-10 offensive prospects in the minors right now, and each could play 1st base better than Prince does right now by a substantial margin. I could see Gamel being a future GG'er at 1st as he is good picking it at 3rd, but struggles with his throws due to footwork. LaPorta's also a very solid defensive 1st basemen.

So with Braun locked up Prince is the one guy who could bring you a young ace and a reliever who could close, plays a position in which you could bring up a guy right now who'd be likely league average at worst, and who is going to force the organization to make a huge financial decision in the near future.

So no, nobody hates Prince. I believe that as Brewers fans we're a big more sophisticated than that. Thinking it's wise to deal a guy in order to make the club better has very little to do with personal feelings.

The problem with trading Prince is that he's the only legit lefthanded bat in the lineup at least until Gamel establishes himself as an every day major leaguer.

I would guess Gamel would play 1B if Fielder was traded.

If Prince were traded tomorrow and no big league first baseman came back to Milwaukee in the deal, I'm 95% sure Brad Nelson would be the Brewers' first baseman. He's not "established" but he is left-handed.

Gamel isn't being moved off of third base for now, and I tend to think LaPorta would be called up first anyway.

If we are going to trade him, could we please trade him to the American League. I worry mostly about Prince's thickness. Seems a little larger this year and I'm wondering if that may limit him down the road. I too would trade Prince and a couple pieces for no less than 3 highly touted pitchers.

i don't think trading a player has anything to do with disliking the guy. i think Fielder is awesome, but i think it's that we get more value via prospects and saved-arby-money than we would if we kept him. i really think of it a lot like when the A's traded Giambi, and definitely Oakland had nothing to complain about for how he performed there.

personally, i assume Gamel moves faster than a bullet to first base if Fielder is gone, which also moves him a giant leap toward major-league readiness, because he's only lacking defense at this point. i don't think Gamel is the second coming as far as prospects go, but i still think he could be 75% of the player that Fielder is, and for all the other reasons mentioned, i think we get back far more than that 25% with what we'd be gaining by trading Fielder.

If you are going to trade Fielder to Arizona all talks should start with these three pitchers: Max Scherzer, Jarrod Parker, and Tony Pena. Then you throw someone like Jeffress in to offset some of the pitching loss for Arizona.

Eric Byrnes is now out with a torn (strained) hamstring in EACH leg... Jeff Salazar & Chris Burke are due to platoon in LF for the D-Backs... Hmmm, Corey Hart for some pitching??? Maybe Scherzer & Pena? We could even trow in Gwynn so they have a decent 4th OF!
