Dillard promoted from AAA, Gagne placed on 15-day DL

recte44

This season is starting to remind of that season a few years ago when we had guys like that garbageman Joe Winklesas pitching for us.

I am bummed that I made the "DiFeliceelsas" remark and it got nothing. That was what I was saying, though. Things are tough all over.

Wow, I totally missed that. Brilliant http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Sounds funny when you say it out loud, too.

If I had Braun's pee in my fridge I'd tell everybody.

Totally over my head, got it now and it is very funny.

The move could be a lot of things including Bush going down, removing DeFelice or Jackson from the 25 man, Gagne DL'd, or a trade. It seems to me that the first 3 would have been announced along with the Dillard move, but we will have to see.

this kind of reminds me of the linebrink trade in which I believe a roster move had to occur that day for some reason and we were waiting for it and speculating about a trade and then it went down.

Brian had some feelers out that day IIRC...... any word yet Brian?

When things go bad, they really go bad.

I caught your Winklesas referrence, I just like him, so it didn't make me laugh, it made me sad.

What was so good about Jackson since he's been up? He's been exactly what he was in Nashville... None of those guys except Pena excite me at all, and he started slow or I wonder if he'd already be up.

I feel obligated to say both Zach and Mark, minus a HR to Ortiz, have pitched well.

Dillard K's so few, I find it hard to believe he's anymore than replacement level.

Yeah so far I have liked what I have seen from ZachJack and DiFelice is okay but his 84 MPH fastball worries me a bit.

FYI, heard Gord Ash on AM1250 earlier and he said that Gagne is due back in Washington by 5PM, and he will be further examined then, and they will make a determination if he will go on the DL. He said there are some other things "we could do" that they discussed as a staff last night. Certainly got the impression that a trade was not a possibility, although he's not going to come right out and say it either.

Well Dillards spot has already been filled in AAA, so either someone is going on the DL(most likely Gagne) or DFA'd or someone is getting sent down and another AAA player is going to be released, DL'd or sent down.

I sure hope they aren't sending DiFelice down. I get where the Winkelsas comparisons are coming from - they're both 30+ year old career minor leaguers that none of us had ever heard of. The critical difference is that Winkelsas never did anything in the minors to demonstrate that he might be better than a replacement level pitcher. DiFelice, on the other hand, did. Over the last 1+ seasons - he struck out better than 1 per inning at AA and AAA, with a 10-1 K/BB ratio.

This thread has also reminded me that I put less stock in radar gun readings than almost anybody. I only find low velocity worrisome when it might be a symptom of an injury (i.e. somebody who should be throwing 94 is topping out at 89). If AA and AAA hitters couldn't hit DiFelice's 84 mph cutter, big leaguers should have a fair bit of trouble with it too. I cannot for the life of me understand why McClung is starting tomorrow, with a pitch count limit of 80 and an established walk rate way too high to expect sustainable success, instead of DiFelice. Everybody else (both within the org and without) just says, "duh, he throws 97 mph." Sigh.

Hopefully it's not a decision of 15 day or 60 day...
That's not an issue. A player can be moved to the 60 day DL retroactively whenever the team sees fit. As a matter of fact, we've seen panic attacks on this board when a player is moved to the 60 day DL when he's supposed to be back in a week or ten days. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

All the 60 day DL does is remove a guy from the 40 man roster. The roster currently stands at 38 players, so there's no reason to use the 60 day DL at all.

I do like some pre-holiday roster drama, but I'm sure we will be disappointed once it happens. Do we know for sure Dillard will be in uniform tonight?
It should be no problem getting Dillard from Nashville to Washington by game time.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
