Fielder's value (and availability)

Where is that quote from RW23?

The Royals seem to be adding payroll the last couple of years so maybe they'd be interested in making Fielder the face of their franchise.

How about:

Greinke and Gordon

for

Fielder, Villanueva, and Braddock

Sign me up for that ONLY if we use the Fielder savings to sign Sheets.

Stupid proposition of the day: Sign Richie Sexson, send him to AAA to get some ABs, see if he can return to form for us like Jeff Cirillo did. If it looks like he can, consider trading Fielder, and let Sexson be the stopgap until LaPorta/Gamel/whoever.

Actually not the dumbest idea ever, but I really don't see any evidence that Sexson is going to become close to the player that he was at the beginning of this decade again.

It's not likely, but he is less-far removed from even better numbers than Cirillo or Kapler's good seasons (if that makes any sense). The Brewers seem to have a decent track record with reclamation projects, so he might be worth a punt on a minor league deal.

How about we keep Fielder for three years, trade LaPorta for some ptiching and actually try to go for it over the next few years instead?

Pitching from a Fielder trade >>> Pitching from a LaPorta trade. Factor in Prince's upcoming raise, refusal to sign an extension and awful defense, and I think this tips the scale.

I cant believe people are suggesting Richie Sexson...let it go already, he is washed up.

I agree 100%.

Except, so was Jason Kendall. And Gabe Kapler. And Joe Dillon. And Torres was retired. Cirillo was past washed up.

The Brewers have had much better luck with "washed up" players than "up and coming" players.

I just don't know what to think anymore. Thank goodness for Doug.

Most people said the same thing about Russell Branyan a couple of months ago, too.

On a minor league deal, what's the harm (unless they want LaPorta playing 1B in Nashville or something)?
