At this point, there is no reason for us to be buyers

I sure don't think so. This team's pitching staff is probably ranked about 20th in the majors. That might even be too optimistic. Adding a 4/5 starter or even a mid-tier closer is only going to move us up to about 15th at best. We are a below average pitching staff that with an addition would still be average or below. Our hitters could still prove to be top ten in baseball, but this team is not going to the playoffs unless .500 or five games over gets it done in the division or a wildcard. I see no way, realistically, that this team is going to be ten games over .500. It would be a big mistake to trade a Gamel, LaPorta, Escobar, Hammond, Jeffress type player for a middle of the road pitcher. And personally, I'd rather get something for Gwynn that will be around longer than the rest of this season, since again, I don't see this team realistically making the playoffs. I know many believe Gwynn is expendable, and he may well be, but that doesn't mean we should trade him simply for a pitcher that will be gone at the end of the year. He should be able to get someone that can help us NEXT year, when we'd likely be closer to ready to challenge for a playoff spot. Gwynn has some value and it'd be a waste to throw him away for somebody to plug a hole to get us to stay around .500 all year when we could trade him in the offseason for help for next year and get more for him. Thoughts on whether we should be buyers at this point?

The Brewers pitching is weak, and probably not going to be very strong this year, as the roster stands now. The offense is one of the best in the league however, and once that starts showing we could very well be in a position to pick up a player or two come the end of july. The brewers dont have to make the decision of whether we are buyers or sellers yet, since it is still only may, alot can happen in 2 months.
