Good Sign--Quality Starts

It's an easy stat to criticize, and not without merit.. 6ip, 3er or less. Still it's true, pitchers who consistently pitch to this minimum standard are giving their teams are good chance to win a lot of games. When the entire rotation does it consistently you have a winning team with a legitimate playoff chance.

 

For the first time this year, the Brewers just went through the rotation with every one of the 5 starters throwing a quality start. In fact the starters bested the minimum quality start specifics, with a 2.20 ERA and just under 6-2/3 inning average over the last 5 games.

 

As painful as the 9th was last night, teams who carry a 5-3 lead in the 9th win 80% of the time, at least. The Brewers are still not overpowering anyone, but the starters were quite impressive the last 5 games. For me this is the clearest sign things may have finally turned around.
