good to hear. I am a HUGE fan of Mark A. I think he is exactly the kind of guy this team has needed. I am, however, still grateful for the Selig's (even with their stingy spending). They brought baseball back to Milwaukee in the first place and secured it for a long time to come with the Miller Park deal. Mark A, however is a good succession. He cares passionatley about the team. He has a day job, so the profits go back into player spending, and they are doing everything they can to put a good product on the field.

For just this year or into the future? If just this year, I dont know, depends on who is available. If into the future I hear Ben Sheets is Free Agent at the enf of the season. Id love to have him going forward.

I am a little worried about this. Considering what he gave to acquire Scott Linebrink, I'd be concerned about what he'd give up to acquire a #1 or #2. You know any conversation with start with Gamel or Laporta, and would include Jeffress. I guess I'd wait to see what our draft looks like before I completely rule it out, but I agree, I would rather just sign Ben Sheets in the offseason for $15 million a year than to trade two prospects for a guy who pitches 2 months in Milwaukee. It would nice to see Sheets and Gallardo, healthy, in the same rotation.

Sheets would be good, but that wasn't the point of the article. Did you read it? Mark A. (through Adam Mc) were talking about a pitcher for this season. And like the article said, it's MUCH too early to even think about it, what with teams not even close to being sellers yet.

Sabathia would be a rental. And, personally, I'm not interested in a rental unless it's a guaranteed playoff berth. Greg Maddux I'd be intrigued about, only to see him work with his brother. But I'm also not sold on him.

I'd love to see the A's fall out of contention and we go for Huston Street.

BTW, this thread has already started to lean towards "transaction rumors/proposals" territory.

I missed the chat room carnage, but the Giants would be insane to trade Lincecum. Unless Sabean was blown out of the water by a deal, that is. Lincecum is their Gallardo. You just don't trade young ace-like pitchers like that.

For the Brewers to acquire him, you'd have to offer at least 4 truly legitimate prospects. And I mean TOP notch can't miss guys.

LOL....this thread is a pipe dream.

Sabathia? Lincecum? Penny? Lowe?

There is no way that any of those players are let go and I have absolutely no doubt that the Brewers will never actually make a "Johan Santana" type move.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers did pick up a rental, but it won't be a #1 starter--it's just going to be an expensive pitcher coasting on reputation or an old guy about ready to retire. I'm also assuming that the NL Central, even the awful bits, will be off-limits. There's no way in heck that anyone like Lincecum, Cain, Fernandez, etc. would be available--they're all cheap. Teams like to keep cheap.

Gil Meche has a no-trade clause. He may be willing to waive it to go to a contender, but who knows?

Same for Mike Mussina, who isn't the pitcher he used to be but could still be interesting.

No way in heck Tom Glavine would leave Atlanta.

The Dodgers do have Lowe and Penny. Lowe doesn't have any trade protection.

The Rockies are really desperate for pitching. They may get desperate enough to trade for multiple scrub pitchers in exchange for one good one. Aaron Cook or Jeff Francis may be available if that's the case. (It's also really really unlikely.)

Everyone thinks Greg Maddux will be moving somewhere. (But would he take pitching advice from Mike?)

Kevin Millwood, if he ever gets off the DL. May not work as well without Gerald Laird, however. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

And in the ultimate salary dump, there's always Barry Zito.

Lincecum makes a lot of sense to me. The Brewers will need to replace Sheets at the end of the year regardless. They are overloaded with top-tier hitting prospects, while the Giants will be out of the running and looking to build their entire organization. The Giants won't be competitve during Lincecum's current contract, so they may as well get several major-league-ready prospects and get younger while Lincecum is still healthy.

I think if, at the beginning of Spring Training, you had told me that by May 15:

2 of the following 3 pitchers would be out for the year: Sheets, Capuano, Gallardo, with the third missing at least one start in April

Turnbow would be DFAd

Gagne would have blown five saves and been removed from the closer role (even temporarily)

Weeks, Hall, and Cameron would be below the Mendoza (Uecker) line

Carlos Villanueva and Dave Bush both would have ERAs around 6, and Manny Parra would be at around 5

and the Brewers would be in fourth place at .500

...

I think I would have burned my Brewers gear on the spot.

No wonder Mark Attanasio is willing to spend more now while there's still time.

Lincecum is going absolutely nowhere (people out here think the Giants can compete again starting next year) and it makes no sense to trade the position player prospects we'd have to trade to get Tiny Tim and that crazy motion of his....I'd be willing to bet he's a wreck down the road.

I still think a much more realistic and sensible option is going for Maddux this year and then resigning Ben next year

I was just thinking that Maddux seems to be a perfect match. San Diego is going nowhere, they want Gywnn, Greg can come hang out with his brother. Plus he is pitching pretty good this year and would add some stability to the starting rotation while being able to mentor the young guys that we have.

lets do it...

I'm thinking Greg Maddux hasn't really taken pitching advice in about 10 years.
