As it turns out it would've made no difference this time anyway

The point is that he only skill that Gwynn has that isn't duplicated on the team is his speed. If you are never going to use him to pinch run than get a real bat up here.

"Because he dove."

I know. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

Maybe I would be too tough of an official scorer.

And I also like he left Parra out there to pitch.

They need the starters to start going into the 7th and 8th innings.

Plus Parra owed it to the pen for making them work so hard in his other starts.

The choice was Parra vs Gwynn though

OK, so a .150 batter vs a .250 batter (rough estimated, obviously)? I'll take the 10% better chance of a hit (not even mentioning a walk) over 1 extra IP from an average pitcher ( at least right now) who's going to do worse than average because the batters have already seen him a few times.

Rluz...Parra has 2 of our 4 rbis...He had 80 pitches, and he was dealing....We were up 4-1..I myself, agree with Yosts move...If noone scored in the 7th, more people, not necessarily you, would have agreed with it too

The fact that an infield groundball found a hole should play a part in the decision making process? And the fact that Parra was "dealing" isn't worth much if anything. Just like a pitcher who gets roughed up early performs just as well as expected last in the inning. It's not predictive (check "The Book". Finally, my opinion had nothing to do with the 7th, as Parra didn't pitch particularly bad anyway. My opinion is based on sabermetric studies and common sense that tells you how silly it is to do what Yost did.

Like I said, most managers would do it, so I'm not picking on Yost. Just the fact that baseball thinks they figured everything out 50 years ago drives me nuts. Every other sport is happy to admit that they are still learning.
